Kwame Nkrumah, a really whacky Ghana commie, had a Black Star nationalist movement in West Africa back is John F'ing Kerry's bust-out period (late '60's, early "70's). That sort of Panther black star could mean a lot to the little leftist twerps supporting Kerry, but who knows?
