My hubby and I would like to purchase NASCAR tickets for a September 10th and 11th event in Richmond, Virginia.

MoJo, I was surfing jayski.com yesterday and found a lot of information about tickets. I can’t remember the exact links I clicked, but if you surf around his site you’ll find some info. He suggested getting the local paper and to drive through the campgrounds because several of the campers have tickets for sale. He also said that races are never sold out, even if it’s announced that they are.

I’m looking forward to the military aspect of the race too. I get flutters when I watch the fly-over on TV....can’t imagine what it must be like in person. I haven’t been this giddy about something in a looong time.

I won’t know where I’m sitting until tomorrow night. I’m going with a group of bowlers from Parkersburg, West Virginia. I’ll be at the DeWalt hauler around 4:00 to get pictures of the “We Believe” banner. I have a pull-along cooler so I’ll copy a picture of the “Free Republic Nascar Thread” logo (JJ’s car – redesigned) and put it on the front so you can see it. I really hope we get the chance to meet. It’s great following these threads with everyone and will be even greater if I get to meet ya!

I usually park behind the backstretch so I can drive in the back way and avoid most of the traffic and work my way around. I am in Ford Section K past the start finish line about 2/3 down the front striaghtaway. I'll try to go by the DeWalt trailer and see if I see the sticker on your cooler.

There will be a lot of people there. It is overwhelming. Charlotte is the Mecca of NASCAR and many of the shops are just north of Charlotte in Mooreseville right off of 77. Roushe Racing is there. It is right across the street from the NC Auto Racing Hall of Fame. Most of the drivers live in the area too. DW's house is just up the street from the track and like all his neighbors lets people park on his lawn - for a fee (whatever the going rate is).

Good idea with the pull along cooler. I use an old fold-up luggage cart. Note that they have size restrictions for coolers and bags and are very strict about it. Also, you may want to invest in a five dollar "butt pad." It will be the best five bucks you ever spent.

Most of the trailers are across the street from the track and there are a bunch of "unofficial" booths set up by independent shops that have a lot of die-casts and t-shirts at good prices. You could spend a whole day just walking around there.

The race starts at 5:30 but the pre-race may start much earlier. As much as an hour or more earlier. You'll get to see LugNut go nuts in his little midget car. Also, try the fresh homemade lemonade they sell at the track. It is so good I even went out and bought a lemon press to try and duplicate it (mine doesn't come close).

Be prepared for the time of your life!

Say hi to my friend Rudy Zeck at CMS. He works for Humpy Wheeler in R&D. He did the R&D on the Thunder Roadsters and Bandolaros. He also built and maintains the Celebrity Convertibles that Nascar drivers race there on the small track. His son Ryan Zeck won the Thunder Roadster championship last fall. Ryan was the first recipient of the Allan Kulwicki scholarship in engineering at UNC
