Higgins was a total jerk on TV last night. They confronted her (with footage) at the DFL convention and she kept asking them to turn the cameras off. They refused, saying it was a public venue. She looked exasperated, and said repeatedly "I'm NOT going to speak on that issue."
I'm hoping she loses her seat.

The basement of the MN State Capitol features a German-style rathskeller. The German sayings on the walls about beer being good for you, etc, were painted over because of temperance and anti-German concerns in earlier decades, but it has been restored.
Does anyone know if beer is served in this rathskeller?
(The basement is an interesting place to visit, as are the tunnels to other State buildings. Very practical in Minnesota winters!) (DFL is the Democatic Farmer Labor party.)

state workers and even some lawmakers gathered in offices at the State Capitol to drink beer, wine and liquor, I'm shocked I tell you, shocked.
People need to get over the notion that having a beer is akin to shooting up with heroin. If these legislators and staff had a couple of beers with their late night pizza, so what?
To: steplock
In Minnesota the Democrat party is known and the DFL(Democrat, Farm and Labor) Party.

I think it's the hypocrisy....if ANYONE ELSE DID IT they'd be strung up. The laws are the problem...and these are the LAWMAKERS doing their usual....breaking the very laws they make.

Agreed.

NY legislature -- passing out interns like hookers
Minn legislature -- passing out like winos.
Why is it that every state legislature seems to confirm the worst stereotype of the state?

Time to put a full court press on our legislators on this. They tried to fry Arlen Lindner for words. These folks should resign for this crap. Let's get the ball rolling!

Because it's illegal and inappropriate!! That's why. Guess who pays the tab if these idiots get in their car and get killed or kill someone else?
What would your employer do if you decided to throw a bash in your office during the workday?

I have not seen the piece, but this line makes me think it more as just "a beer with pizza"
The station taped someone carrying a cooler into the office of Senate Majority Whip Linda Higgins
BTW-I agree that if it was caught with a legislator having a *gasp* beer with the staff after session, it should be a non event. One beer with the staff does not a travesty become. A cooler however...

A sixpack w/ice in a playmate maybe? Maybe a case in larger cooler for 12 people? Who knows. If it's an after hour party among staff what is the big deal?
To: Terriergal
I saw this on the news last night. It sure would explain why nothing got done..
