You might have a point if Clinton's UN adventures had been discontinued. Yet troops remain where they shouldn't be.
The Wahabbis must be stopped. and I will glady run them down to the four corners of the world, if it means you sleep better tomorrow night.
My thanks for your service, Old Sarge.
Not what I meant at all. I do not think that the children of today truly understand that what they have was made possible by the sacrifices that others have made. I do not think that the draft will be instituted because the community thinks it would be good for them. It will be instituted because we need soldiers to fight for the freedom that we all enjoy.
1. To whom much is given, much is required.
2. If you think chasing down Al Queda and Saddam was playing Nanny, you are a complete idiot. I really hope that's not what you were saying. I would much rather take the fight to the bully's back yard than have him bring it to mine -- which he already did on 9-11. Would you have us wait for more of the same?
Its a good thing there is no draft because after hearing his poetry for an hour I would have to explain to my sergeant how the tragic bayonet accident occurred in our foxhole.
LOL!!! He slipped on the mud while trying to "Fix Bayonets!"
We weren't given anything, we earned it. And we don't owe the world a free lunch. In fact we don't owe them so much as a dry fart.
If you think chasing down Al Queda and Saddam was playing Nanny
How do you explain the other 100 or so countries we're in?
Oh, are you a WWII vet or a vet from some other war/conflict?
Not for much longer. The Bosnia mission is winding down at last. Those stationed in Africa are now there to hunt the Wahabbis full-time. And our "noble allies", France/Germany/Spain, are twisting their pantaloons because our bases are being vacated.
Think on this, though: The "vile draft" the thread poster talks about is only a Socialist ploy tailored for maximum anti-Bush political damage. They have no intention of even allowing it to make it to committee; that's how utterly bankrupt Socialism has become.
Careful - you're toying with the words from the Good Book there -- or do you not recognize that?? And how, pray tell, did you earn the right to be born into this privileged place that we call America? Hmm?? I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but this priviledge was given to you by your Creator, whether you acknowledge Him or not.
Okay, on this and several other threads, you have often quoted the "110+ countries".
Give me the list.
Did you get that idea from the Bible? Romans 9:17 says otherwise.
Agreed.
I do not think that the draft will be instituted because the community thinks it would be good for them.
Not to nitpick but... "I think it would be a good thing for our children." Have you changed your mind about this?
It will be instituted because we need soldiers to fight for the freedom that we all enjoy.
I hear a lot about fighting for freedom. Yet every time I look around there's another law, another regulation, another restriction or infringement of our rights. If we win this war, will the Bill of Rights be once again respected? Will the surveillance state be dismantled? I think not. The biggest threat to our liberty is right here at home.
While Al Queda etc.. may possess the ability to kill limited amounts of Americans and cause economic damage (yes that needs to be fought) they can never enact a single law here or ever take our liberty by force. They currently cannot restrict your speech or assembly, or take your gun or search you without cause. And they will never in a thousand years be able to do so by force alone.
Yet Islam's authoritarianism still poses a great danger to our freedom. Because our Constitution is no longer respected the majority is omnipotent in America and can impinge upon rights at will. Muslim immigration is the only mechanism that can ever overrun us. And NOTHING is being done to stop it.
Until that happens, this fight will do nothing to protect our freedom from them. If it truly were, not a single one of them could immigrate, and neither major party will lift a finger to stop it. That speaks volumes.
A free country doesn't need a slave army.
My right to the pursuit of happiness implies just that; so long as I do not violate others basic liberties, I am entitled to whatever ends I deem just and whatever means I deem fitting. I will indeed be happy if terrorism and dictatorship are eradicated worldwide. I have written articles, poetry, and commentary advocating Americas firm, uncompromising stance against those who would wish to threaten the lives and prosperity of its citizens. But my happiness is found in my study near a computer, not on a battlefield. In a country where free enterprise and specialization of labor are held essential to the progress of every individual, I should be permitted to remain where I sit.

No, I have not served. At the time I was of age, our then president was quite open and adament about our "global policeman" policy. In fact, those were exactly his words.
Once you volunteer for the military, you have no choice as to what mission to perform. Yet I will never volunteer my life or even my time for a cause I do not think is just and given the vast majority of conflicts and missions our military has been misused for there is no rational or logical reason to beleive I would not be put in that position.
So given the 'all or nothing' nature of our military, I could not in good conscience volunteer. I discussed this with a Marine recruiter who happened to be a friend, and he thought I should not volunteer and would not make a good soldier in today's military for those reasons.
I do however strongly beleive in defending this country. I would be more comfortable with a military structure and foreign policy resembling that of Switzerland. It has served them well and to me is very admirable. I also note it involves mandatory training, yet questionable foreign deployments are unheard of.
By your tagline, I take it you have served in our military and I thank you for your service.
And if the new hippies would get a shave and a haircut and grow up, they might realize it is an honor to serve their country.
Thank you for your service.
Emphatically agreed.
My statement did not imply that I had changed my mind.
You really think that our greatest threat to liberty is here at home??? LOL!!! Terrorism is an instrument to supress that liberty of which you speak. Terrorism is designed to cause fear. Are you so naieve to believe that 9/11 was a one time deal, and that we have no need to guard against further attacks by any means available to us? I, for one, am glad that our government is taking the steps necessary to protect it's citizens. I do not believe for one instant that the new laws are an infringement of our rights. If you have nothing to hide, what are you worried about?
