The pic please "When I was growing up, hunting and fishing taught me about the importance of clean water, abundant habitat, and sound wildlife management, and gave me an appreciation for the legacy of conservationists like Theodore Roosevelt, Ding Darling, and Aldo Leopold.
Now, as a life-long hunter and fisherman, I am proud to be among the millions of American sportsmen and sportswomen who are dedicated to conserving fish and wildlife and passing along the American hunting and fishing heritage to the next generation." --John Kerry

My friend out in Washington state, shoots regularly with an elderly English gentleman who is a :-) gun nut. I sent her the photo that's been FR posted many times with hanoi john on this bird hunting trip. Here is what that esteemed (former) English man had to say about hanoi john's fancy 12 guage.
It is a 'side-by-side' double barrel shotgun, side lock mechanism, 12gauge. The pictures are fuzzy but I would put money on it being a high class Eurpoean, and probably an English maker. The clues are: the slender lines, the (thin) splinter fore end, the metal release button on the front of the fore end, the apparent double triggers, however if they are gold plated (which may be the case looking at the photo) I'd switch my vote from English to Italian or Spanish, the outline shape of the lock plates and the apparent extensive application of engraving. The fact that there is no raised and vented barrel rib would indicate English again. Lastly the pretty thin butt plate (recoil pad) also points to European origin. You'd be looking at MAYBE one of a pair, at least $40,000 and, depending on maker, etc., to over $100,000! Probably a present from his loving wife!
If you owned this expensive of a gun, a maybe two of a kind in existance would you be shooting some stupid birds with it?????????

The Italian Rizzini sidelock starts at $60,000.
Coulda been a cheap Merkel too.
I still like my double trigger sxs Stoeger Uplander. I just wish somebody would make a cheap drilling.

Thanks for the link, but if you check the text that it links to you'll see centerfire rifle in bold print. I'm curious. Can a rifled slug penetrate regular body armor, not the new Interceptor style with steel plates?

One thing I noted when the entire group of hunting shots was posted, back around the time of the Iowa caucuses, was that the stock was 3-4" too short for his long arms. (It was particularly obvious in the picture where he looked like he was going to fall on his @$$, and the bird dog was running the other way.) He wasn't able to tuck it into his shoulder without bending his arms - which means that it beat the #$)%^(*)^ out of him when he fired it, which is why he probably only shot two birds, that was all he could stand. A loosely held 12 gauge is no joke, it uses all that space to accelerate before it beats your shoulder joint to a pulp!
It isn't his shotgun, it was loaned to him for the photo-op. (BTW I vote for a nice Italian custom, it just has that look to me. Wish I had one!)

If you owned this expensive of a gun, a maybe two of a kind in existance would you be shooting some stupid birds with it????????? You bet. I keep no cats that catch no mice. My dad has a beautiful Parker double that has been his bread-and-butter bird gun for 60 years (it was his dad's before him.) I have a .303 Enfield Long Branch sniper rifle that was reworked by Holland & Holland - it goes out to the range and gets the lead blown through it just like everything else. If you use proper loads and clean your firearms properly, they will not "shoot out" in your lifetime. (The only exception being the .220 Swift, which eats barrels.)

I will take issue with one statement in this article.
Anybody who thinks the FN-FAL is a "lightweight" rifle hauls bowling balls around in their spare time. My husband has one and has stopped taking it deer hunting because it's too heavy to haul around the woods (let alone the desert.) An FN weighs 9 1/2 pounds EMPTY - add 10 (or 20) .308 rounds and a decent scope and you're talking a load. Just for contrast, my little Ruger M-77 in .308 weighs 7 pounds empty. 2 1/2 pounds' difference may not sound like a lot, but after 4-5 hours tramping around in the woods . . .

Someone at the NRA convention said, "Kerry wears blaze orange as camouflage."
He disguises himself as a hunter to fool the public into thinking he supports the 2nd amendment.
