It appears that the various legal proceedings at both federal, and multiple state jurisdictions, will take years to be resolved.
Now, does anyone honestly believe that ALL, every single one of these happy couples will stay together? Nah...Indeed, given the instant "celebrity" culture we live in, there will probably be a certain cachet, if not notoriety, but at leats 15 minutes of fame, to being the first married gay couple to get file for divorce. Oprah will send the limo. Dr. Phil will send the Gulfstream. Leno and Letterman will rejoice. Especially, if it's a contested, bitter divorce ( and let's be honest, ALL divorces are bitter to some extent..
And suppose this couple has adopted , or had, a child. Even better, or worse, depending on your point of view.
Now, happily, I'm not a lawyer, nor married to one. None of my kids are lawyers, nor married to any, and I don't even play one on TV. But, I've been in some interesting hypothetical conversations the past few weeks with several legal types; all of whom say that the attempt to "unwind" a same sex marriage could come a-cropper to all concerned, if it turns out later on that there really wasn't a marriage, in the legal sense. Suppose that a divorce settlement , including property division, and alimony, support and maintainance payments are decreed under current state matrimonial court guidlines; then, it turns out, a few years later, there really wasn't a marriage at all. Well, the partner who got the short end of the stick is going to break all sorts of records rushing back into court to vacate the divorce decree.
And for those happy couples who aren't residents of Massachusets but have flocked there to get married, before returning to the other 49 states to demand that their unions be recognized; well, don't even think about breaking up. The old quickie "Reno" type divorce, popularized years ago before the advent of no-fault divorce in most states, only applies in "uncontested" divorce actions... Something to thnk about.
Oh yeah, BTW, what's YOUR best guess as to how soon before the first divorce petition is filed? My guess, hopefully, is about three days before the Democratic convention starts in Boston.
yep--the divorces should be something to see. "Pre-Nups", what's that?
Whoops! Correction on the spelling on the subject line please.... moderator?
Gay Divorce Court TV is on the way!!
THanks, didn't realize it..
My over/under day 8/1/2004

You've never seen so much hissing, scratching, biting and kicking. And that's the guys! Fighting over the antiques and the Key West time-share.

I am still waiting for two women to volunteer to marry me in a trois relationship. I'm so series that I could be hugh!
First, define Fivorce.
YOU have to give us more info..like HOW? because Texas diesn't recogniz those?
How about annulments? Failure to consumate means what?
Please correct spellng in headline to DIVORCE..thanks
I saw a study saying that in Sweden male homosexuals divorce at a rate about 150% that of heterosexuals.
YOu will ecall that when the SC threw out the Texas law, JUstice Tomas correctly predicted that this ( gay marriage) would soon happen..he also said that it wouldn't be long before the polygamists filed suit..Now, they have no press, no PC, so we can forget about them, but if THREE GAYS file suit to be allowed to mayy, well, then it's a whole new ball agme..
I've always had a feeling that divorce lawyers were one of the driving forces behind faggot marriage. Talk about finding a gold mine.
