Here in Washington State we had Senator Slade Gorton. Not that great of a Senator but not all bad.

The libertarians pulled out all the stops in a campaign for their own Senate candidate and actually conned a lot of people to vote for THE TRUE CONSERVATIVE candidate and to send a message to the Republicans.

They suceeded. Slade Gorton was defeated and in his place we got Maria Cantwell. Besides becoming the biggest fund raising Senator despite her freshman status, and a flamming liberal, Cantwell's election resulted in the Senate going back to the Democrats.

Kennedy... yikes, that's repulsive...

Actually, if the improbable were to occur and the Democrats were to win control, I believe Leahy would get the SJC.

Still, a chilling thought... but I'm still convinced that we're looking at a strong possibility of a net gain in the Senate in November.

"Okay, but I hope you guys know what you're doing. If we lose the Senate this fall, isn't Ted Kennedy the next Chairman of that committee?"

I believe that it falls next to Leaky Leahy, not the swimmer.

But

That would be if the Dems win 8 of the 9 (or ten) races. If that happens, we have more problems than Specter. No one expects that to happen.

And what would be the difference in results between Leahy and Specter ?

Had your GOP candidate been more faithful to the party platform and the Constitution, the LP likely would not have fielded a candidate. You can't blame people who are looking for a good candidate to honestly represent them.

In PA, this is an entirely different situation. No one thinks that Hoeffel is any damn good. We are not advocating a 'pure' candidate to oppose a less pure one. We are supporting a Dem Rat in an effort to remove a Dem Rat who has been hiding behind the GOP "R" long enough.

A freshman dem can't do the damage that a liberal POS SJC chairman like Specter can do to Bush's nominees.

>> As a pennsylvanial Republican and a true conservitive my party has left me no choice but to use my vote to help elect Joe Hoeffle to the U.S. Senate.

You are a lying SOB. No conservative would vote for a left-wing wacko like Joe Hoeffle.

"You can't blame people who are looking for a good candidate to honestly represent them."

Therein lies the problem, a third party candidate cannot HONESTLY REPRESENT them...they can however be a spoiler.

Here's a question. Suppose you do get Specter out and Hoeffel in. What assurances do you have that you can knock him out of office when he is up for re-election? Incumbents, though we may wish they were, are not easy to defeat. Even those that are vulnerable can sometimes skate by if no one is interested in duking it out with them, Harry Reid for example. We could be stuck with Hoeffel for a few decades.

not much difference... Specter goes beyond RINO status... looking at '01 (W's first year in office), as a real good example, Specter voted with the Democrats 71% of the time. People in PA know well that he has long enjoyed unbridled support from the unions, as well as Planned Parenthood. But I don't want my response to help stray from the topic at hand, which is why a conservative today in PA should consider a vote for the Dem Hoeffel? Which brings us back to the SJC chairmanship. Specter must go! Plain and simple!

We could be stuck with Hoeffel for a few decades.

Even if that, the worst scenerio, would happen, NOW is the most important time to remove Specter-who would be heading the Judicial Committee. Doesn't that frighten anyone ?

Y'all think this is a troll? Nooooo, this is the typical commentary on the FR PA board. Which is why I put myself on "No View" for the PA board. Those people are whistling Dixie over there.

For those of us who look beyond party label, the third party candidate is a place to vote for someone who embodies those principles. It tells the party whores that you cannot be ignored without penalty. Some would call that a temper tantrum or being a spoiler.

"It tells the party whores that you cannot be ignored without penalty.'

And it tells conservative America that that party is not a friend or alli.

Slow down. Look at the reasons offered above in my post. There is a damn good reason to vote for this whack job.

No assurance at all. But think about it. If we can remove a 24 year incumbent, we should be able to remove a 6 year incumbent opponent who won with our help in the first place.

In the meantime, if we don't stop Specter, we will be stuck with HIS judicial preferences for the next couple of decades. His values ARE NOT our values. Sad to say, but the judiciary may have as great or greater an impact as POTUS on our lives.

Do you want more liberal judges writing law according to their agenda? I don't.

Well, conservative America already knows that the GOP is no bastion, or defender of conservative values.

And some of you are just whistling past the graveyard pretending that Specter is okay.

Nope, it isn't always. It's an institution made up of elected representatives from across a wide spectrum of the nation. Some are pretty conservative, some are downright liberal. About the only advantage we get from the more liberal ones is overall control.

You say you don't want more liberal judges writing law according to their agenda? I don't either. Which is why I will never fall for voting for a third party candidate in a national election again.

Sure the candidate may claim to be more conservative then the Republican (I say claim because a third party candidate in a national election NEVER has to defend their promises), but if all they can do is be a spoiler...no way.

Which is why I am advocating voting for the atrocious socialist democrat Hoeffel instead of the atrocious liberal democrat Specter. An atrocious democrat with no power is better than an atrocious democrat chairing the all important judiciary committee and soon, the appropriations committee.
