If you are not totally on board with absolutely every tiny point of (Insert Liberal Cause Here)-dogma, then you are a sick, poisonous bag of cruelty and evil, who must be destroyed. That's what ideologues are like; that's the totalitarian mindset.

Brilliantly written. This will produce a very large number of letters to the editor indeed.

And that's why the next step, if homosexual marriage is enforced by the USSC, is to make it a crime to speak out against homosexual behavior, ala Canada.
The radical left doesn't want tolerance and debate. They want absolute obedience to their precepts, backed up by government force.

Derbyshire bump.
He could write about rocks and I'd still enjoy it.

The doctor says $50, and $500. The woman takes out her checkbook. Something like this has already happened with deafness, and deaf people are resisting the universal treatment of childhood deafness with cochlear implants (the same gadgets that allow Rush to continue his show).

"mild, tolerant homophobe" bump
Great story by John Derbyshire, as usual.
Other articles by UK-born but American-by-choice Derbyshire can be found at:
www.olimu.com
He's a mathematician by education and a successful, self-taught writer -- author of "Prime Obsession", a book on the search for prime numbers. He's written a novel, a poetry book, and many, many articles.

Even worse, they'll probably amend the 1st amendment to read "Congress shall pass no law limiting freedom of speech except when it disagrees with liberal dogma"

I won't start pinging you to a lot of threads but I thought you would find this of interest.

I do not subscribe to the fashionable belief that human beings suddenly got much smarter and more moral around 1965, and that everyone who lived prior to that date was a benighted ignoramus. There are plenty of people long dead who seem to me to have been very smart indeed much smarter than I, in many cases. It is even possible that one or two of them may have been smarter than the editorialists at the New York Times. I don't know, I don't say this necessarily was so, only that I wouldn't altogether rule it out. Exactly.

Thus we began by attempting to right what was felt an ancient injustice and we ended with a monster in our midst, powerful and clamouring, flexing its muscles, threatening, vengeful and vindictive towards anyone who challenges its outrageous claims, and bent on making fundamental and to most of us horrifying changes to civilized patterns of sexual behaviour. We think we know so much. Yet, every time we turn around we keep discovering that G-d knows so much more.
Shalom.

Think I should inform Mr. Derbyshire where he might have heard "We're here, we're intolerant, get used to it!" before?
We should nominate him as a BRAAD boy.
Shalom.

Thanks for the ping. I'll have to read it later - I work two jobs and don't have much time for FR these days. But this, too, shall pass.

Brilliantly written. Derbyshire, Steyn, et al must cause despair amongst B-list writers.
