To answer you last question: it would be a start.

But the worst that lies ahead is conflict within our own borders. There are no guarantees, either. Rome lasted as a republic for what - 600 years? Yet some still spoke of the 'Roman Empire' as late as as 800 AD. It existed as a fiction. Rome fell when Romans stopped being Romans, when they lost the sense of the ideas, traditions and culture that held their civilization together. As will America.

There is nothing that says that another, crueler, dark age can't fall upon the world once again.

Europe is not the United States. Perhaps Europe will become Islamicized some day. Who knows? (I personally doubt it). That's still a big difference from the United States falling apart like the former Soviet Union did..

The Newsmax headline (which is inflammatory, hyperbole, and something of a red herring - "like USSR" implies what, that we'll be outspent in an arms race?) does not fairly correspond to the content of the article outlining Meyer's views (he makes a lot of good and important points).

If the islamic holy sites are destroyed, yes, islam will die. It can do nothing else - it is totally predicated on being superior and able to show superiority by overshadowing other religions.

Actually, Mecca and a couple more like the al Aqsa mosque might be enough.
