With needing 130K troops in Iraq at any given time until 2006, I don't think we can afford to be too choosy.

Apparently, there was information about the abuse months ago and Bush and Congress are only now hearing about it. The system didn't work. That's a sh!tty system.

I agree that the alleged mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners is far from the torture, mutilation, murder, rape and atrocities against the dead that are commonplace for prisoners in the Arab world. However, that doesn't dismiss the fact that this mistreatment violated regulations and places the US and US Forces in a very bad light. These sophomoric hijinks have done serious harm to the US and have directly aided our enemies. The perpetrators need to be dealt with severely if we are to salvage any credibility in the world. I would think that US troops are smarter than the few idiots that pulled these stunts and would be anxious to see them get what was coming to them.

I thought the investigation started months ago? Officers were relieved, etc.
And the issue is none of Congress' business. It is the President's business because he is CinC, but he has the JAG office and various other military law enforcement options to deal with this. The issue shouldn't make it up to him. It is just not that important.

This is my last post on this subject.

This is about HUMILIATION being used to acheive a tactical goal. Preventing the death of coalition troops, US and Iraqii civilians and all the others that these crazy Iraqqis and assorted terrorists are killing.

Our tactic = HUMILIATION.

Their tactics = hacking up civilians, bombing pipelines, roadside bombs, suicide bombers, improvised explosive devices, RPG and mortar attacks, attacks against school buses, etc., etc., etc.

This is not a quid pro quo issue.

We'll agree to disagree. This is certainly Congress' business. We have 3 co-equal branches.

Oh, and this is important enough for the President.

I know this is your last post, but I dont understand your answer to me. I really do not care if any iraqi is humiliated. In fact, if they have killed americans, they should suffer real torture, not just sexual deviation.

My problem is with the propoganda that this has caused, I'd like to see iraqis put on the hot seat for THEIR real atrocities committed againts americans.

The world needs perspective that BUSH is not allowing.

You can't undo "STUPID", but it seems to me the Military is trying their best to eliminate these problems and are taking immediate action! WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT????

I don't believe that the majority of Freepers condone the action. I believe most feel the Military must punish the wrong-doers.

But the fact is this issue is taking on a life of its own, largely sponsored by the press showing us three or four pictures again and again and again. It was OK for the MSM to show these photographs, but they find it distasteful to show the photographs of the Iraqis toasting 4 Americans and partied, how PFC Jessica Lynch was beaten and raped by Iraqis, and how over 700 of our young men and women have been brutally blown up right in the streets of Iraqi.

I just get so angry and feel so helpless on how the MSM can control what is News! Maybe that's why we have so many Freepers wanting to be heard!

My point exactly. Maybe we need to buy some air time somewhere, or get some pictures and post them up around our individual townships. Pictures that show iraqis are not all good and sweetness like the lib media and democrats may think.

Last I heard, there were at least 3 women involved. They were even named, according to a thread I read here, two days ago. However, I don't remember which one, there have been so many.

Well, yes...these men and women weren't trained in right and wrong by their parents.

Amen. If my son, who is in the army, were involved in something like this, I'd kick is @ss (at least I'd try).

HUMILIATION, are you kidding me. The freakin' Islamists blow up civilians, women, children, old men, they don't care. They cut four of our civilians to pieces and hung what was left off of a bridge. They blew up a school bus full of Iraqii children. They raped PCF Lynch. They cut Daniel Pearl's head off. They blew up 3,000 in New York, another 289 in D. C. and a bunch in Pennsylvania.

By the same token, you killed the kids at Waco and blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building. When do we get to butt f___ you?

The miltary admits that half of the people in that prison shouldnt have been there.

The real scandal is the gross misuse of the word "torture." <P. Bend over and maybe an MP will ram a broom handle up your rectum. Also there are 25 deaths being investigated and charges have already been made against a soldier and CIA contract employee.

I myself am losing sleep every nite over the condition and treatment of the terrorists

The army general who investigaged the situation concluded that half of those in the prison shouldnt have been there...so its hard to make the case that these were terrorists who were just getting what they deserve.

I'm tired of people making excuses for these scumbags. Being raped with a broomstick is torture. Plain and simple.

Just because we're fighting against evil doesn't mean we have to become evil ourselves. We didn't gas our POWs when fighting the Nazis, why should we adopt the terrorists' techniques when fighting them?

Like the one bad cop who ruins the reputation of thousands, there is no place for these lowlifes in our military, or even in our society. Shame on them for disgracing the uniform, and shame on anyone who would make excuses for them.

These abuses are being called TORTURE routinely. I have heard it reported as torture on FOX NEWS (James Rosen) and several other media outlets including talk radio since becoming public.

This is how the media works it's 'magic'. Where perception becomes reality and where stating a lie over and over again, suddenly becomes the TRUTH. You know PC has reached it's ZENITH, when DURING a WAR the POTUS, apologizes to the enemy for prisoners of war being naked. (I don't know if GW has apologized but I just heard Gen Kimmit do so, we will see if our President sees fit to say I AM SORRY too) Let's PRAY NOT!!!

Have you seen the thread reporting that these Photos are from a porn site and are fakes?

If these pictures are fakes, why hasnt one family of an arrested MP made that claim. They are all saying that they didnt have adequate training, that they didnt know it was wrong, that they were ordered to do so. They admit it happended so I think its highly likely that most of the pictures of American troops are real. The brit photos maybe fakes but you can bet the captured prison guards woudl be screaming bloody murder if they were being framed by altered photos.

The POWs from the war were apparently all taken care of. Lynch and the rest received medical care as best as the captors could.

That is not what I have seen reported. The Military says that Lynch was anally raped by her captors. Others have reported torture and beatings. In fact, there is an ongoing lawsuit from Gulf War I by former POWs against Iraq because of their treatment.

Having said all that, I would simply submit this picture. This is how the Iraqis treated some of our soldiers (it is my understanding that they were castrated before they were shot in the head).
