Who cares???? It's soccer! I know you think you're being original and funny. You're neither.
(BTW, the US has now gone 6-1-1 over the last eight games with our neighbors from the south. ;)

I guess you think you are a mind reader. No, I never thought I was being original or funny. Well...maybe a little funny. So what got you so angry to reply to my stupid post????? It was just a stupid remark I made poking fun at the soccer lovers. Who care? Geez... lighten up a bit.

You said in another post: I am shocked, SHOCKED My response: I know you think you're being original and funny. You're neither. Note: Yes, I am aware I am being unoriginal AGAIN because I just copied and pasted your reply to me as a reply to you as well. You see how all this is just so silly over some stupid remark I made over some stupid game. Again, lighten up and take a few breaths.

I know. I was just joking around.;-)) I remember some months ago when the Mexicans beat the US to eliminate them from the olympics. An article was posted here on FR where the bozos at AZTLAN used that win to write a very anti-American article that got my blood boiling. Although I am not sure if it boiled as much as when philsoc saw my joking remark about soccer.;-) (philsoc, if this is still not original and funny enough for you then call the cops)Anyway, I myself am very happy the US won.

I am a huge fan of the World Cup, it is one of the last vestiges of pure nationalistic fervor left in this era of globalism. Sooner or later the US is going to win it, and when they do, you can bet the TV ratings for the final will rival that of the Super Bowl. American professional soccer like the MLS will always be a non-starter, however. Soccer relies on rivalries, and it just doesn't happen here. Although back in the day when I lived in Fort Lauderdale, the Strikers and the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the old NASL had a pretty intense rivalry.

One thing that you have to remember is that soccer is absolutely huge among Mexicans( including the ones that migrated to the USA). They will have a strong showing at all of the Mexican National team's games. And no, I don't have a problem with them cheering on the Mexican team..
I watched the US women play Mexico last summer( doubleheader with an Earthquakes game). It was just really fun to watch. =)

I thought he played for the Cardinals....

Sorry if it came across as TOO harsh, but soccer is a passion for many people in this country (and surprising even to me, quite a few Freepers as well :)
And I was still upset to watch the game, and then open up USA Today the next day and see one line on the contest.
If you had the chance (and the compulsion) to watch you would have seen the United States dominate a cynical, overmatched Mexico, who were still about to sneak away with an undeserved tie on US soil.
And while many nationals of other countries voice their disdain at US superiority, but thumb their noses at the US on the soccer field - hell yeah I'm going to be excited when we can dominate that international arena as well.
And then the final thrust with seconds left in the match. There is nothing like it.

Ok, so you just happened to love soccer with a passion. Fine with me. But I was trying to joke around. Note: "Trying" is the keyword in that sentence. ;-)) Meant no harm. ;-))

Amazing the Pope can still score, at his age.Well, he's been given special dispensation by FIFA and is allowed to use the PopeMobile, so that should keep his goals-per-game average up well into his 90's!
