Correction:

***Those who turn away from and against God have hearts and minds FILLED (not "willed") with darkness - IOW, filled with evil.***

I would like to make a small correction. I made this statement:

"The answer is that WE can nullify His beneficent influence by turning our backs on Him."

Actually we can never nullify God's influence, that makes it sound as though we can cover or defeat Him in some way. We can't ever do that. But by choosing to turn away from Him, we then choose to separate ourselves from His light and love, as far as what we experience. His love for us never diminishes, no matter how dark or evil we become. But our *perception* of His love and light dimishes, until there is often no perception of Him at all, and we live at that point in a completely dark or evil world. Someone who does great evil such as Saddam Hussein obviously lives in such a world.

Thank you for sharing these concepts, little jeremiah. You did a fine job of explaining your beliefs of these issues. Also noted, without denying real and crucial differences, is the high degree to which your theses here parallel and merge with mainstream Christian theology and philosophy.

Pinging the Catholic Caucus to little jeremiah's posts # 80 and # 100. If you ever wonder why Pope JPII acknowledges real Truth even in non-Christian or eastern traditions, little jeremiah's posts here and elsewhere are a perfect example why.

Just wanted to quickly mention that I really appreciate your taking the time to posts these lengthy answers. I definitely plan to get back to this thread when I have the chance to give it all the attention and contemplation it deserves. You've given me a lot to ponder. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Truth is truth, wherever it's found. We belong to truth, truth doesn't belong to us!

The point where you and I differ are that you believe you know what objective reality is and I know that I don't know and have no way of knowing.

Please pardon the intrusion into your conversation here, but your comment that you know that you don't know and have no way of knowing seems to be self-refuting. Your proposition above is just as much of an objective truth claim about about the universe as the claim of any other person who claims to know what objective reality is; namely, that there is not enough information in the universe for you to be able to know what objective reality is. But there is no way for you to know that for certain, since you are finite and have not, and cannot have searched throughout the universe to be able to make that determination.

Cordially,
