I listened to the Jay Severin radio program yesterday on my way home from work. Jay did indeed issue an apology of sorts but with the important qualification that his remarks weren't just taken out of context but were intirely misquoted. Jay did remark to a caller that offered that we should 'make friends' with the islamic terrorists. Jay countered with a remark that 'I have an idea, let's kill them all'. (My remarks in quotes are paraphrases instead of actual quotes). Jay apologized to anyone who was offended by the misquote and fabrication but not for the intent of his original comments. This is a disturbing trend in the destruction of free speech in America. A person can be maligned and threatened with a loss of employment based on a misquote. The real injustice here is that the Boston Globe ran with the story without (evidently) first substantiating the story.
