Wow! No, this is the first that I have heard of it.
Is there a ping list for ocean liner stuff- QM2 happenings, Titanica, early 20th cenury liners and such? I'd sign up for it.

Its getting cloudy with light rain here now unfortunately. Same here (Hartford, CT area). I just checked my on-screen TV guide, and saw no listings for any coverage of the sailings.
If I could be in the NYC area tonight, I think I'd be riding back & forth on that Staten Island ferry quite a few times!

Sorry, I can't start one, I've got too many going now as it is! If I happen to run across something, I'll remember your screen name, though.
One of our best (and least expensive!) finds at an antique stores a few years ago was an old teak (?) lounge deck chair from the original Queen Elizabeth. There are metal plaques attached to it that say "Queen Elizabeth" and "First Class Only". The antique dealer told us the previous owner kept it on the deck of his boat/yacht.
Have you ever read Grand Tours and Cook's Tours - A History of Leisure Travel 1750 to 1915 by Lynne Withey? We picked up the book at a discount bookstore awhile ago, but I haven't read it yet.
BTW, I haven't found any info for live TV coverage of tonight's QM2 and QE2 sailings... :(

I'll check the South Street Seaport Museum's website from time to time (or go to the museum if we're in the area) to look for that. From what I read upthread, your parents were on the QM2's maiden vogage from Southhampton to Ft. Lauderdale. I'd love to hear about their experience some time (especially the experience of those 50ft waves!).

On the Discovery Channel this evening at 8 pm Eastern:
Queen Mary 2, Birth of a Legend
120 mins.
"A look at the massive superliner includes technical details about its construction and engineering, engines and materials. Also: guidance systems."

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll tape it because I won't be home at the time. Looks fascinating.

What a beautiful ship! Thanks for the photos. At 81,000 tons, its almost as big as a Nimitz class carrier (95,000) tons)!
