Nation mourns six million Jews killed in Holocaust

Thanks for posting this article. The world needs to be reminded of this horrific event every once in a while. As an aside, I find it interesting that both the American Revolution and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising started on the same day of the (secular) year - two groups of desperate people who, despite their wide separation in both time and space, shared a common desire to live in freedom or die fighting for it. The sacrifices of both groups of heroes should always be remembered by those who love freedom and liberty.

I do have one serious complaint about the terminology of the lead article and the captions on many of the photos. When fascist and Nazi goons tear you and your family away from your home at gunpoint, force you at gunpoint onto a cattle car where you are starved and given a communal bucket to share with 100 of your fellow victims, force you at gunpoint and with vicious dogs threatening to rip out your jugular to strip and get into the "showers," and when you are then gassed to death with Zyklon B - that is the MURDER of an individual and the GENOCIDE of a people! On the other hand, when you cross the street and are flattened by the Mack truck that you didn't see coming - then you are killed, as in accidentally. It is a tragedy, to be sure, but nothing like organized genocide.

An admirable statement, with which I agree wholeheartedly...and one that is meaningless without both the force to back it up and the will to use that force. I wonder what would happen if the leftwing anti-gun Jews of this country had to face the circumstances that were faced by their relatives in the 1940's (not that they would, because America and its people ARE different) - would the result be any different?

This Jew and his family will not be passively rounded up, herded into cattle cars and delivered to a "shower" to be gassed - I share the mindset of those heroes who fought in the forests and in the Warsaw Ghetto, and I've got more modern "tools" at my disposal.

You answered your own question, America is different, I don't see our culture allowing it, but in any case, arms would be available, something worth protecting irrespective of Bab's opinion.

I had an acquaintance who worked as a switchboard operator in Nazi Germany. She later married an American GI and came to the US. She stubbornly insisted that the Holocaust was nothing more than propaganda...that it never happened.

She died in 1998. Sadly, she denied the Holocaust until her death. She knows the truth now.
