The 9/11 appointment was a sop to Kean; he wanted to be Bush's Secy of Ed. However, conservatives kiboshed that idea. Proto-conservatives detest the pro-abort RINO Kean.

We really need an election to give us a sense of what Americans really think.

My point is there is a famine of real honest to God thinking going on.

Sure, Bush might have prevented 9/11. Imagine that he had addressed the nation on August 6 and declared a National Emergency, because there was a possibility that bad men were planning to do something bad. Next day he sends the Patriot Act to Congress.

At the least, howls of protest from the usual suspects, and no doubt impeachment proceedings, which I suspect even Republicans would have supported.

This just in:

Gorelick is adopting the usual Clintonesque scam used to bail themselves out of trouble......turning themselves into "victims." The regular routine when libs smell trouble is to stoop down, start sobbing, and assume the position of "victim."

Gorelick was on the news crying about getting harassment calls.....said she'd been getting death threats.....not accusingly, mind you, but "tolerantly and (gag) compassionatly." Claiming death threats is surefire victimization routine.

Ashcroft is supposedly investigating the threats.....same guy who revealed her image-damaging memo. Guess where that'll lead?

She should change her phone number and not let Clinton and McCauliffe know the new number then.

And John Ashcroft should recuse the DoJ from investigating the death threat matter as they have a conflict of interest with Ms. Gorelick.

One more on the "good old days".

"Due to the partisan nature of their work, politicians frequently received challenges — as did newspaper editors and attorneys."

Satisfaction Requested

Appointing this Judas to the 9-11 Committee was one the greatest errors of President Bush's career.

Are you sure about that? Why attack (or suppress) your enemies when they will self destruct if you just give them enough rope? Heading this Commission is now Kean's biggest claim to fame and every day the 9/11 Commission becomes a bigger joke.

This Commission is nothing more than a way for a politico, #1, to make money (they are paid), 2ND, to be partisan before the camera's and lay BLAME anywhere but clinton,#3, to make more money selling a book, #4th,to get before more news cameras to explain the commission's inexcusable handling of information, but promoting how well the commission is bipartisan and hard working, #5th, appear on any TV show to explain all the above,( they are paid to appear there too) #6th, how more information and content to write a book about how diligent and hard working you were when "appointed" to be on the commission.

Here's a novel idea for these bipartisan commissioners to consider...how bout DONATING any fees gathered (earned) for TV appearances...books...magazine articles..interviews...
..to the service mens widows and orphans fund instead of ANY political party coffers

Do you feel the same way about Colin Powell?

I was listening to Drudge this evening and apparently Woodward's latest book against Bush contained criticisms of Bush's foreign policy by Powell in such detail it could only have been provided by Powell himself. I recall someone posting something on this forum to the effect that Powell had composed a "letter" outlining his opposition to Persian Gulf I in the event it was a failure, to be "leaked" later to the press.

People like Kean and Powell are dangerous individuals in which to trust and confide as their own agendas, egos and interests always supercede any ostensible loyalty to their party, President or Country.

I think what the 9-11 Committee is transparently metamorphosing into, i.e. a three ring circus, makes a man as arrogant and egocentric as Tom Kean all the more dangerous to Bush. Kean will go even further than he may originally have intended in engineering a bomb to drop on Bush, if for no other reason than to distance himself from the Administration and any possible perception that he might have gone easy on a fellow Republican. He may also resent deeply, as the proud and vain individual he is, a perception that Bush had "set him up".

Bush is a man who apparently has a strong sense of loyalty and trust in people and expects that loyalty and trust will be reciprocated. In the case of personalities like Kean, Powell and Whitman this is a false and dangerous assumption.

Cheny, Rumsfeld and Rice are worthy of Bush's trust. The others are not.

No, not really. For one Powell serves at the President's pleasure. Pres. Bush's actions do seem enigmatic at times but I don't hold the opinion that he is naive or stupid. Secondly, I can't equate him with Kean for the simple reason that Powell isn't publicly hanging himself, which is what I had said.

I personally don't like Powell all that much. His politics are much too lefty. He is strong, honest, intelligent and clear. I think Pres. Bush has used him effectively. I don't think he sets policies that the President doesn't approve of.

If Colin Powell is comfortable with openly criticizing the President's policy that might be a pretty good indication that the Pres. is open and comfortable with that criticism which shows that he invites all P'sOV in his considerations. That is a pretty strong denial of much of the criticism the left slings at him.
