I don't understand why this guy is still around? . If you were Arnie, why would you keep him around.

Bustamante was independently elected. The governor has no power to remove him.

In California the Lt. Governor does not run on a "ticket" with the Governor. He (or she) is elected directly and separately from the top slot. So a democrat 'Gov' can have an Republican 'Lt' OR as we have here, a Republican Governor is stuck with a typical democrat machine political hack.

Bustamante was elected to his office in 2002 for a regular 4-year term.
Gov. Schwarzenegger doesn't really have a choice.

I am still concerned that, with the Democrats strongly in power in both houses of the legislature, Lt.Gov. Bustamante might sign awful legislation, nominate bad judges, or otherwise undermine Gov. Schwarzenegger when he travels outside CA. This happened when Mike Curb (R) was lieutenant governor to Jerry Brown many years ago and when Gray Davis (D) was lt.gov to Pete Wilson.

His campaign contributors will.

Yet another correction - those union members getting banged out of their dues by union leader thugs will pay this fine.

The unions themselves will just take more from their members, and give more to Bustamecha, everybody's happy - except those folks whose union dues went to this boob's coffers.

"Bustamante accepted at least 39 contributions -- many of them from Indian gambling interests"

The illegal part was he was supposed to use this money for the next lieutenant governor election, yet it is an outrage that Indian tribes, sovereign nation as they may be, can donate any money to any campaign and not be illegal!

Arnold is almost a figure head with weak support from the left. I agree.

Well, at least Kerry now knows who his running mate will be.
They just needed the ink to dry on the fine first.
