Employment is spotty. If you're in construction there's no shortage of jobs. If you're in IT, the good old-fashioned high paying jobs are scarce. The computer industry is in the process of being reinvented at the moment, and people who are used to being agressively recruited are having to figure out new ways to make a living.
And of course, manufacturing is going the same way. the big employers are going overseas, but light industry and small manufacturing shops are booming.

It's funny because we have to go to Pakistan, Bulgaria, Russia and China to find people who want to work for $50,000 to $80,000 a year on our project.
The low job numbers don't seem to tie to anything.

$50-80,000 looks pretty good in florida, but in the northeast and California, that isn't much. I have no idea why people would turn down work if they don't have a job, unless it involves relocating.
