I think Ms. Mowlan must be hitting the Guiness Stout too much. I suppose she would have sat down with Hitler at Munich and negotiated with him.

Well, inasmuch as Osama has sworn to destroy us, I'm thinking we might be just a teensy bit shy of negotiation room here. Maybe if he promised to only kill us just a little bit dead she'd think that an improvement?

I think we should. Get all our enemies in a roundtable to express their grievences. Then we kill and bury each and every one of the cowards in pig fat!

I've invited Bin Laden over for tea several times but he never returns my messages. It's always--"he's not in his cave right now." How can you get together and do lunch if the guy won't return your messages? It does take two to tango.

Bin Ladin can negotiate with the barrels of our soldiers' guns.

"Please, don't hurt me!"
"By Allah, don't shoot!"
"You're breaking my arm...stop...I swear I'll come along peacefully!"

You can't negotiate with bullies except through force.

Dear Osama:

Be nice or we'll kill you.

Sincerely,

open talks with Osama bin Laden and al Qaida around a negotiating table.

We should get Osama and gang around a negotiating table, have our diplomats excuse themselves for a few minutes, and then MOAB the table.

MOAB

I think they should. Arrange a meeting with Bin Laden. Invite him to speak at the UN, like they did with Arafat. There should then be numerous opportunities to capture or kill him.

This is a seriously addled individual, but don't blame Guiness, John Barleycorn, or a reinvigorated brain tumor. Mo's inverted logic is just another example of "touchy-feely", myopic, leftist squishyness. She truly believes that sitting down for a discussion with a murderous theocrat can produce realistic and satisfactory results for both parties. One might as well negotiate with a cobra, no cobras' have too mild a temperment,...a rattlesnake. For all one's good intentions and faith, the nature of a viper remains reptilian. Rational discourse is far less useful in such circumstances than a sharp spade. As for meeting Osama's recruitment quotas, nothing dissuades like methodical annihilation and ignominy. Those who elect to challenge Western liberal democracy must perish before its military and technological hegemony. The physical defense of the philosophical high ground is our quest. Zealots who persist in their longing for martyrdom,... well, we aim to please.

She replied: "You have to do that. If you do not you condemn large parts of the world to war forever.

yes MoMo, those parts are called Dar al-Harb (the abode of War) as distinct from Dar al-Islam and refer to any part of the world that allows you to speak or show your face in public.

Given the most likely alternative, I can live with War Everlasting.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse.
When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people.
A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their own free choice--is often the means of their regeneration.

A man who has nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the existing of better men than himself.
As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.
- J S Mill

'Negotiate with Bin Laden': Mowlam Apr 8 2004

If one has a death wish or is terminal with a fatal disease this may be enticing.

In that case, one has nothing to lose by negotiating with Bin Laden.
