I sometimes wish there were publicized fundraisers here at home to support the soldiers' families and willingly share the pain that they're bearing for our country.

My concern is for the families. Even though I'm hardly well-off I intend to donate to something that helps them financially while their loved ones are protecting us at the risk of their lives. I wish Bush would trumpet the need for all of us to share the burden as well as the benefit of our continuing war. I'm talking above and beyond the "I pay my taxes" truism. If everyone gave just a little it would add up.

I agree with that, with the proviso that it is not the only way. The "war on terror" is rapidly becoming indistinguishable from a war against radical Islam; therefore, the fighting in Iraq is related to the overall defense of the homeland and in keeping with Bush's doctrine of taking the fight to the enemy. I have heard that Iran and Syria have contributed fighters to the current battles, hoping to occupy the US while Iran arms its warheads with nukes.

The potential loss of more of our fine troops is not sufficient reason to shrink from the task and the troops know this. One may debate the wisdom of launching the war in Iraq, but the opportunity to break the back of the radicals in Iraq, as well as kill a lot of imported radical fighters (the only efffective way to deal with them), is worth doing in the context of this war. We can not do it without the sacrifices of our military. We face a unique threat that is much more difficult than achieving military victory; would that was all we had to achieve.Unless and until the radical Islamic message is tempered by muslims themselves, the war will continue. This struggle may occupy the better part of this century unless it is prosecuted ruthlessly. Only if we fail to achieve ultimate victory will our troops have died in vain.

Democracy and radical muzzies don't mix. Why didn't we know that before going in? We could have stated we were just going to take out Saddam and would then leave to let them stew in their savage islamic juices. The result would have been not that dissimilar to what is shaping up in Iraq. Oh, I forgot, world opinion would have been negative, as if the costly course we took elicited positive world opinion.

I was referring to the fact that we've armed and trained a good number of people to serve in an Iraqi "police force" and that this will obviously serve a role in the ultimate pacification of Iraq. I don't know what you're talking about here with this "bigger gun" stuff. The size of a gun is neither here nor there.

So the reason we are afraid to give our good friends the iraqis arms to fight for their own damn country, is that they'll blow it? LOL! Good one Doc!
