Prior to the advent of the modern weapons of mass destruction, we could just sit behind our ocean barriers and put a few guards on our borders and be happy.

But then we found OIL and liked it and we now have airplanes and automobiles and a very nice lifestyle and many don't really see that anything has changed in regard to how we defend ourselves.

Trust me, Joe, I don't think you or anyone else would really WANT the kind of security in this country that what you want would take, especially because such security would, someday, be in the hands of a politician with no qualms about using it inward instead of outward.

IMHO, we'd need to change the very essence of our country to do what you wish...and what was left might have the name, but it would NOT be America.

No, we must defend our nation as it is now, or we might not have something worth defending.
