There've also been reports of AC130 Spectre/Spooky gunship fire into buildings as Marines have drawn fire.

Have heard the same, but have't yet had the pleasure of witnessing it yet. Hope to tonight...it's very dark.

But understand that in circumstances such as those now ongoing, it's very easy for a on-the-scene reportr assembled in haste and under press restrictions to appear cursory or less than respectful, when that's not at all the intent of the writer. Additions and rewrites by copy editors at home don't help matters either.

Thanks. Good points.

I'd be more understanding of our press, esp. AP, if I hadn't spent May-June 2003 (post-embeds) "mass-communicating" with them, and hadn't been through similar experiences with them during elections 2000 and 2002.

DoD, based on this morning's CJTF-7 reports (and not yet including your fifth Marine - they aren't big on "breaking news"):

Hope Rove isn't doing any counselling here . .

I would recommend watching it from a bit off to the side. The view from directly below is not recommended.

Try to stay focussed....On the tail of the gunships, if you see the nose, cover.

Per CNN report *here*:

The Marines came under intense fire late Monday, with Iraqi insurgents firing mortars and rocket-propelled grenades at their positions from a mosque and from an open field.

U.S. forces moving against those positions also came under attack from Iraqis who fired machine guns and threw grenades at them from a BMW sedan. The Marines killed one and wounded at least two of their attackers, taking the survivors into custody.

An Air Force AC-130 Spectre gunship, armed with a 105 mm cannon, was called in to push back the attackers, and no Marines were hurt.

The operation involves troops from the U.S. Marines' 2nd battalion, 1st Marines, and the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, both stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, Vanzant said.

Didn't see Spooky however I could see tracers in town from where I'm staying. What's it mean when the local workers won't show up for work or leave early?

lol...I should have thought of that a year ago, shouldn't I?

Someone wished that I should live in interesting times and I thought that they wished me well.

All the sunshine and food I care to enjoy...sand and gravel underfoot, aggressive houseflies, lots of booms!, Cuban cigars, what more could a guy ask for?

Women...booze...women...Fox news...women...REAL beer...women...clean sox...women...
