I hope these merchants soon learn, that it's not going to be the "Wild West" in Ohio.

Places without the signs will reap a lot of benefits. Safer, more income..

For the average clerk the sign in the window will mean nothing unless they ask every customer walking though the door to strip before they will offer their services to them.
To: MissTargets
Folks wishing to conduct armed robberies with little interference will tend to select stores that post signs that indicate few if any firearms are present and in the hands of the "good guys".

"As private property owners, we're not going to allow customers" with concealed guns, said Ken Kollar, mall manager. "The signs are right inside the mall entrances."No, dumbass, you're not going to allow law abiding citizens with concealed guns. You are going to allow criminals with concealed guns, because there isn't a thing you can do about it. You've tipped the scales toward the bad guys, and your mall is now a more dangerous venue. Even those who don't have a conceal permit should avoid this mall, as the criminal will be attracted to the gun free zone... less risk for him.

Businesses, including The Vindicator, that don't want employees, visitors or customers to enter armed are posting warning signs. Violators face a misdemeanor charge. Gee, I wonder if the owner of The Vindicator has a sign on the front lawn of his home that says..This house proudly gun free

I suspect that many of these sign will come down once an apprehended armed robber admits that he chose his target establishment based on the presence of a sign in the window of a "handgun inside a circle with a diagonal line through it".

We had this same problem a few years ago in TX, until the Texas State Rifle Asso. started calling for formal boycotts of some and they felt the pain. These signs are rare now.

Unless they make everyone walk through a metal detector-how would they know if someone with a concealed gun permit brought his gun with him? If someone has a real reason to want a concealed weapon (eg, death threats from someone) I doubt that person will risk his life by leaving the gun locked up in the car when shopping for groceries or whatever.

I agree, those signs are the most asinine thing they could do. I guess a wussy little liberal shopper will feel a whole lot safer. They passed a law recognizing a constitutional right. Deal with it. Sheesh.

"We are not going to post signs. We'll see how it develops in the business community and our industry," said spokesman Barb Fisher. "Many states have had [the law] on the books for a long time and it doesn't seem to be a big issue." Two observations:
o Barb Fisher and the folks she works for have a clue. This is an oganizatio worth doing business with.
o This paper is not overrun with PC language idiocy, viz "spokesman" versus "spokesperson", or something even more strained.

The idea of guns inside Komara Jewelers would make the employees very nervous, owner Bob Komara said from his Canfield Road store. "Because of the nature of our business, I definitely will post signs," he said. I can see it now...a potential armed robber will say to himself "well, since they have a sign, I better not commit a misdemeanoer before I commit this felony."

Carry stickers to add to their "no guns" signs that say "armed felons please note; this store is safe to rob".

The new state law won't allow concealed firearms into ...buildings owned by the state or any political subdivision... So why should private business have to allow guns in but not the state or local governments?

And I'm glad we don't have a "we can ban your lawful concealed carry" law here in GA.
