Spain was swayed because of the Iraq issue. That is happening here as we speak.
When Bush decides to clean this up once and for all we all win.
Let the soldiers be soldiers, they are the best in this planet, let them do what they are trained for or they (the Muslims)will come here and take our freedom.
Clean the Muslims out here first.

sam: Spain, is a Parliamentary Republic, much like the U.K. Their PM's term of office is 4 years, with the possibility of a no-confidence motion forcing earlier elections.
If things get bad in Spain economically, or(as I expect will happen) because of blatant curruption and inept governing by the PSOE, the Zapatero government will have difficulties in short order. Aznar put the PSOE on notice shortly after the election, telling the nation that the PSOE was inheriting a national treasury in excellent condition. In other words, if economic problems arise, PSOE is the cause!
Iberian; by "do over" I meant re-think and re-vote. If everyone in Spain with second thoughts got a do over, PSOE would still be the minority opposition party, whining the way the dems do here. Unfortunately, I fear the do over will be 4 years down the road.

I think Spain will respond a lot faster than you think. The pulse of the people are not in the mood to deal with the freaking Muslims or a socialist government.
Spaniards Hate the Muslims, and Zapatero got in on a change created by them.
Spain is in no mood to deal with these bastards right now. The ETA hates those SOB's as well because they are creating a negative undercurrent to the terrorist theme in Spain.
ETA is a Hatfield and McCoy's internal issue. This is a fight among ts themselves

Spain was swayed because of the Iraq issueSpain was stunned and overwhelmed by the terrorist bombing. The election was tipped by the behavior of the PSOE rabble, in the streets by the thousands throughout Spain, calling Aznar a criminal and liar (and worse), right up to election day.
Dont forget, the bombing happened on Wednesday, and the election was held the following Sunday. The Iraq issue was NOT the primary reason for the PP loss. Inflamed Spanish passions due to the PSOE tactics are what caused the upset. Most Spaniards with regrets today would not have voted PSOE had there been a cooling off period between the bombing and the election.

I think we are pretty much in agreement right down the line. I too believe the Spanish people will make damn sure Zapatero stays honest, and will respond quickly if he pulls a Felipe Gonzalez on them. If he tries to loot the treasury, or goes too far left he will have a short tenure!

So what you are saying here is that while an early election is possible, it is unlikely and that the new PM is going to keep his job for the next 4 years. Is that right?
To: samtheman
iberian has a valid point, it is certainly possible..im all for giving the spanish troops refuge here!...its unimaginable how they must feel seeing how their country is acting!

How about battle-field visas, with on-the-spot-enlistments into the American Army? I wonder how many Spanish soldiers would come over if they could.
