Moderates are the scourge of the party,...They sure are. Every time the Republican leadership falls for this BS, Republicans loose elections. The Party has to give the voter a distinct choice between Dem. and Rep.

"I will not appoint any person to the Supreme Court or other federal courts who intends to restrict an individual's right to privacy;"
hmmm, sounds like a litmus test. How about this for a litmus test? "Interpret the law!"
Interpret the law according to the text and original intent of the law, and not to make the law, and to leave public policy to the political branches and the democratic process, abiding by these principles:
- The powers of the Federal courts are restricted to the interpretation of the laws. Federal courts shall not have the power to engage in the creation nor construction of new laws, rights and privileges not contemplated by the authors of the laws and of the Constitution; nor may the Federal courts give legal standing or consideration to laws, decisions, and rulings made outside the United States as either precedent or influence.
- The powers of Federal courts are to be used with restraint and respect for the Federal scheme of Government, respecting the powers of the States and local Governments as established in Amendment X.
- Federal courts must give due consideration in all rulings and decisions to the effect of their rulings on the rule of law, but in no case should preserve precedents at various with the text and intent of the laws in question.
- States and Federal Government shall have the power to define the extent of Human Life and take measures to protect it.

This guy's an idiot.
"One act would be to make the following declaration regarding judges: "I will not appoint any person to the Supreme Court or other federal courts who intends to restrict an individual's right to privacy;"
Utterly, absolutely pointless - since on virtually all of these issues, the conservative position does not acknowledge that an individual's right to privacy even applies, due to it's effect on another individual (in abortion - the child)
"and I will not demand of any nominee in advance a promise to rule in any specific way on any specific case."
This is simply slander. Please, Mr. Campbell, tell me when any Republican has -ever- demanded any such thing, and since you will fail, why they should have to promise not to do something they've never been guilty of? Do you have any objective with this article other than to reinforce this libelous notion in your reader's heads? If any party applies an absolutist litmus test to judicial nominees (PARTICULARLY in the abortion issue), it's the Democrats.
I'll say it again - this guy's an idiot. No. That's too kind. He's a FLAMING idiot.
