John Gibson from Fox News had a guy on tonight who I believe is from Missouri and is supporting Kerry for President. I believe this guy was at the '71 meeting and is claiming that there wasn't a vote taken, and that the only comment made about organizing a Phoenix Project in this country came from one guy who nobody else took seriously.

This guy first claimed that he couldn't verify that Kerry had been at the meeting, but then when asked another question by Gibson, basically responded in a way that would lead one to believe that Kerry was indeed at the meeting. He then went on to say that Kerry repeatedly and heatedly told the group that they had to remain non-violent and focus only on ending the war. My question to this guy would have been: If there wasn't any serious discussion or vote regarding assassination within the U.S., why do you think that Kerry was compelled to make the comments against violence to the group as you claim he did?

This guy's comments didn't add up.

BRIT HUME BUMP!

Brit just highlighted Kerry's latest lie in his "Grapevine" segment and included the fact that the FBI has tapes to refute Kerry's denial of being in KC.

More on the Barnes appearance:

John Gibson, interviewing a VVAW member who was at the 1971 KC meeting on Fox just moments ago, asked if Kerry was there. The gentleman said he did not remember Kerry being at the meeting at all.

But Gibson's redirect won the day. Gibson outlined the Phoenix Program (a military operation aimed at knocking off North Vietnamese leaders) and talked about Scott Camil's suggestion that VVAW pursue a domestic Phoenix operation to kill US Senators supporting the war. Gibson asked the vet (I didn't catch his name) how Kerry reacted to the plan. The vet said Kerry didn't like the plan and loudly argued against it. He thereby accidentally proved that Kerry was there at the meeting, and that he (the vet Gibson was interviewing) was not telling the truth when he said he did not recall Kerry being at the meeting at all. He did recall Kerry's presence enough to remember details about the argument, he just lied about it when asked directly earlier in the inverview.

Curious, no? Is Kerry asking veterans to go to bat for him and lie to the press about that meeting and his attendance? It sure looks like it.

Now why would he do that?

Thanks for the information. I clearly got the impression that Barnes was lying because he first claimed he couldn't remember Kerry being there and then stated that he remembered Kerry speaking out emphatically about the proposal of the Phoenix Project. He even tried to pretend that he didn't see a relation between the Phoenix Project in Vietnam and the one proposed in Kansas in '71. Barnes tried to make it look like it was no big deal, that the proposal for the project was only the idea of one man and that it was poo-pooed by the rest of the group and no one took him seriously. If that's the case, then why the vote, and why did Kerry find it necessary to speak out to the group about steering away from any violent acitivities? Barnes flip-flooped almost as many times as Kerry has.
