It's from Midnight Madness.

FAGABEEFE = A B A A G F E F E E =I've got Pabst Blue Ribbon on my mind.

FAGABEEFE came from Barf's attempts to unscramble the clue.

You mean you kayakers aren't lefties, what with all that nature and stuff? Maybe I had you confused with rock climbers. As for the bluegrass, it's a funny mix. In my area, a typical bluegrass festival will be about 75% normal folks who enjoy watching the fancy pickin' -- and the rest will be bull dykes in full rut out looking for love (and probably sipping on a PBR).

Well, I will confess that I have noticed a certain percentage of lefty-enviro-tree-huggin-wackos on the river . . . and they certainly write irate letters to the kayak club newsletter! But I haven't noticed the "ladies" at the bluegrass festivals. There are a BUNCH of them in dog training, though . . . maybe it's the leather? :-D

Stella Artois

Had some Stella down in Cayman this past summer. It was said that it was a the favorite amongst the divers. Anyway, damn fine beer. Wish I could find it here in Indy.

I hesitate to post this, as it's not a political punk rock ping, but more of just a general punk rock ping. I've noticed that in the past 2 years, PBR has been making a huge comeback in the dives I frequent. It's pretty much the punk rock favorite.

No offense, and this may be a bit yuppie, but I still prefer some badass microbrew over PBR any day. When money's tight, however, I usually just drink cheap whiskey!

Anyways, good rocker article!

When I was in college in Oklahoma, you had 3.2 beer at convenience stores and actual beer at liquor stores. The major brewers had a spat with the state and pulled out all of their full-strength beer, leaving guys like me who didn't want to drink fizzy equine pee to consume other stuff. Pabst and Little Kings fit the bill just fine.

I'll still buy a case of 16-ounce PBR cans for an occasional break from Yuengling, especially in the summer.

I remember buying Black Label for $1.79 a six back in my heyday. I haven't bought that low on the scale quality-wise in quite a while, but I was shocked to see my local grocer stocking Milwaukee's Best for a whopping $3.19 nowadays.

If you're gonna spend that much on a bad hangover, you might as well shell out a few extra dollars and get something that actually tastes good. My current faves are Stella Artois and Blue Moon Belgian White.

PBR is the cheap beer "of choice" nationally it seems (although Schlitz can also be found around).

Locally (Texas) the cheap choice is Lone Star or Pearl but neither is the beer that it was just a couple years ago. They both got bought (I believe by Miller) and are brewed in Dallas now.

Back in the "punk" days of Emo's (1991-1994 was the heyday of the original Houston location) a bottle ofbeer was $1 on sale and $1.50-2 otherwise. Beer of choice was Shiner Bock; enough touring bands got their first taste of Shiner at the Houston or Austin Emo's that the beer was actually taken national (although it doesn't seem to be as widely available these days).

Now the "cheap" beers (beer that costs $2.50 a six pack at the store) runs $2 a bottle with "name" brands and "microbrews" running $2.75-3.50 each.

It's no crime to drink microbrew, yuppies drove up the prices on the cheap beers.

Il Duce (the Mentors) was about as punk as they came and he wasn't a beer snob (high or low class). He'd drink whatever beer someone bought him (I have photos of him drinking 6 brands of beer one night ranging from Rolling Rock to Shiner to Newcastle Brown Ale) and he never complained about the brand.

I leave for Prague next week. Staropramen is my current favorite but I hope to find a new one. PBR is the only domestic I will drink, Abita Turbo Dog is my Micro-brew.

I have seen Schlitz and Blatz in liquor stores in Wisconsin.

I'm from Milwaukee, and I oughta know
It's draft brewed Blatz beer, wherever I go.
Kegs, cans and bottles all taste the same.
The three best is one beer, Blatz is the name!
