Fereydun-Kenar Besieged, Mass Unrest - Reports
March 14, 2004
Iran va Jahan
Iran va Jahan Network
Paris -- Unrest, which began yesterday, March 13th 2004, in fereydun-kenar, Iran, has not yet abated. There are reports of scores of dead and multiple injuries.
The unrest began when the local officials annulled the voting results of recently announced parliamentarian deputy from Fereydun-kenar, in favor of an opposing candidate favored by hard-line conservatives.
Eyewitness reports suggest that as many as 5 people have so far lost their lives and 200 are wounded. Some of the wounded are refusing hospital care in order to avoid identification by the authorities.
Demonstrators have set fire to the house of the Friday prayers Mullah, buses and ransacked some government buildings.
Entrance to Fereydun-kenar has been blocked as security forces are preparing to assault the town and suppress the peoples uprising.

US Warns of Action on Iran Nuke-plans
March 14, 2004
The Associated Press
news.com.au
US Secretary of State Colin Powell put Iran on notice today that other countries would not "just sit by idly" while Tehran pursued building nuclear weapons.
Iran announced yesterday it was indefinitely barring international inspections of its nuclear program.
The move was a protest over a resolution by the UN atomic agency's governing body that censured Tehran for hiding suspicious activities.
"We're worried about Iran and we have brought a great deal of international pressure to bear," Powell said.
Iran insists its nuclear activities are for the generation of electricity, but the United States suspects Iran is undertaking a secret program to build nuclear weapons.
The resolution passed yesterday by the International Atomic Energy Agency praised Iran's increased openness to inspections, but deplored recent discoveries of uranium enrichment equipment and other suspicious activities Tehran had not revealed.
"If they continue in this manner, to deny and to put out the kind of statements as they did, they'll find that the international community will be prepared to take action (when the agency meets in June)," Powell told American TV's Fox News Sunday.
"I won't prejudge now what those actions might be, but the Iranians need to understand that the international community is not going to just sit by idly while they continue to move in the direction of a nuclear weapon."
IAEA director general, Mohamed ElBaradei, and US officials planned to discuss the weekend's developments at a meeting in Washington. ElBaradei is also expected to meet President George W. Bush.

There are reports of scores of dead and multiple injuries. May God help them. It's one thing to encourage them to rise up, it's another to remember the high price that will be paid in blood.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi,
"We're not worried that our case will be sent to the Security Council because, in the first place, we have had good and clear cooperation with the agency and, secondly, we have told them about everything and not hidden anything,"
LOL!

Many young freedom fighters and local residents are hoping to extend the protest actions and resistance to the regime forces till Tuesday night when millions of Iranians will come into the streets in order to transform their banned cultural heritage "Tchahar Shanbe Soori" (Fire Fiest) into a nightmare for the dogmatic Islamic clerics. Tchahar Shanbe Soori will place an unprecedented pressure on the regime forces and will show their inability to control the situation when actions are widely spread in all Iranian cities. Who are we going to call in DC tomorrow to light a Tchahar Shanbe Soori fire under their office chairs?

So is the American media as Kathryn Lopez notes in this post from National Review's "The Corner":
"I'M AMAZED [KJL]
how many emails I've gotten along these lines: 'How come The Corner is the only place I'm reading about the Iranian rebellion? If mobs are firebombing the Mullah's houses, shouldn't there at least be a line or two about on the wire services? Even Reuters?'
Remember CNN in Iraq, pre-liberation? They are keeping the authoritarian landlords happy."
