"We should write letters to our newspapers..."

I agree; however, the military stuff seems to have calmed down a bit. Now, it's the 911 campaign ads. Since we know that two of the so-called "friends/spouses of victims" that complained about the ads were ALSO involved with 'Peaceful Tomorrows' and Teresa Heinz's "Tide Foundation", that's what current letters should be about.

And you are right; we ALL have to get busy.

"I think my point is that no one actually SAW him shoot/kill a wounded man"

Atthe very least, the media couod question him on specific details of his encounter inside the hooch - we don't need a war crimnal as presiodent :)

And I *think* he was awarded a bronze star for this slaughtering of a helpless enemy. Had it upgraded to Silver Star later. Once again - the media has been slackers - no details on who wrote him up or witnesses.

He went for the political cover it would provide, took plenty of movies and photos of himself,

He volunteered for gunboat duty when it consisted of off shore patrols. When he got assigned then the mission changed to more dangerous up-river duty. Once he got the big medal the scratch wounds came quickly to get his outbound ticket punched.

My dad and uncle were in Korea. Dad was Infantry, Army, and a machine gunner. My uncle was offshore on a tin can. At 70+, dad has finally spoken with me some about the war, about guys who didn't get medals for carrying a wounded soldier 3 miles under fire, or for minor wounds. Dad was the survivor of six guys who were nailed by one of our tank shells; the other five absorbed most of it, and Dad lived. No purple heart for that (Dad had three), bronze star, Presidential Unit Citation, and others. They finally went into a frame two years ago.

Kerry's story reeks of politically inspired awards and souvenir hunting, not valor under fire.

"When is the press going to put the pressure on Kerry that they put on President Bush about his Guard records?"

You were asking him when the press was going to put the pressure on Kerry to release his records, and he dodged it. There may or may not have been an implication about his honor, nonetheless, Broder basically blew a big fart here. His answer still stinks. What a punk.

If you haven't done so yet, I urge you to read B. K. Burkett's STOLEN VALOR, which exposes "Vietnam veterans" who were NOT vets and how they have lied about and have benefitted for years because of their "exploits".

Kerry doesnt want anyone to see those cititations or who witnessed or signed off on them
is my guess....

They could be compared to unit after action reports....

They might prove Kerry is a complete phony and a liar....dont blame him for wanting to cover up the truth...

I seriously doubt ...from what I saw in my unit....that officers would have been tested...unless they were involved in a MAJOR FUBAR

The question is Kerry is running for the Presidency of the United States. What documents should Candidates for the Presidency (Bush and Kerry) be allowed to keep from the Press?

You are both right. We have to keep agitating for info on Kerry's military records, but the issue of the manufactured outrage has to take front-and-center right now. Okay, kiddies, here is my new suggestion to get the word out:

Why is it that the media is reporting on the "outrage" of some to President Bush's ads showing 1 second of the burnt-out towers, and yet not reporting the salient fact that those most vocal critics are either associated with an organization funded by candidate Kerry's wife, or that they are Democratic campaign operatives? Isn't it important to report the real news: the political agenda of those who are now claiming to be so offended, when no similar outrage occurred with candidate Kerry's 9-11 ads and those exploiting the torn loyalties of the VietNam war?

The press has asked for the records, but your question is correct. They are not pressing the issue. Here is a blurb about the Boston Globe's request...

John Kerry | CANDIDATE IN THE MAKING PART 2
Heroism, and growing concern about war
By Michael Kranish, Globe Staff, 6/16/2003
Kerry had been wounded three times and received three Purple Hearts. Asked about the severity of the wounds, Kerry said that one of them cost him about two days of service, and that the other two did not interrupt his duty. "Walking wounded," as Kerry put it. A shrapnel wound in his left arm gave Kerry pain for years. Kerry declined a request from the Globe to sign a waiver authorizing the release of military documents that are covered under the Privacy Act and that might shed more light on the extent of the treatment Kerry needed as a result of the wounds.

David Broder: You imply something dishonorable about Sen. Kerry's war record. I know of nothing that supports that suspicion. Do you have any such evidence?

Hmmm. I know of nothing dishonorable about George W. Bush's National Guard service, yet we were subjected to weeks of baseless calls of "AWOL" and "deserter" tossed around, debated and outright asserted as if they were proven fact, and it was demanded of President Bush that he produce all of the records to disprove these charges.

At 70+, dad has finally spoken with me some about the war,...

You know, this point alone makes me wonder about Kerry's "war hero" image. The way he runs his sewer about it all the time is a pretty good indication of a desperate attempt to embellish an otherwise questionable record.

My Dad was regular Army and went ashore at Normandy on D-Day. He made it from there all the way to the Rhine on V-E Day and, in spite of my pleadings, was reluctant to ever talk about the war. Only later in life (after my having "discovered" various documents an artifacts in my parent's 'hope chest') would he mention a few tidbits now and then, like taking on a pillbox and having half the men in his squad buy the farm, or walking on patrol and taking the guy next to him get his brains shot out by a sniper, or having a shell drop down on the farmhouse they were in and blowing it all to hell (after they'd heard the incoming and bolted for the cellar). True, my Dad never ran for President, so maybe he didn't feel the need to brag. He was content (and thankful) to be able to come home to marry Mom and raise a family and work at an honest job for the next 35 years. These are the kinds of things heroes do, and only reluctantly talk about.
