For what it's worth, I was among those who stated that I would have preferred that the US done a fake last spring, and surprised the Iranians.
It would have taken care of the problems that we are experiencing in Iraq which have their origin in Iran. I think the Iranian army would have been much more competant than what we have found in Iraq and could have stepped into the role of security.
I knoe that this would not have been possible, mainly for reasons of international opinion. But it would have been a superior stategic move.
