Novak owns the Capital Gang show. Were he smart, he'd make Ann Coulter a regular and pit her against Margaret Carlson and Al Hunt. Infact, Ann could handle Mark Sheilds as well.

Good Point. We all have to ask ourselves: Smaller Government, if not now, when???
I think the answer to this question scares all of us.

I have a close relative in a sensitive position, if anyone published their name I woudld be livid. It is your relative's responsibility to keep his position secret, and not blab it around at cocktail parties, as Joe Wilson did about his wife.

Sinkspur is NO Democrat now!
We all have one issue we favor more than others, and some of us have ONE issue that's the line in the sand.
Even though I like Bush, I disagree with him on somethings; MY one issue is keeping those dirty SOBs out of control of this country. These are the people who tried to tear this country apart during the 60's, and they're coming back to finish it off.

You're right.
I used to be a gridlock fan until the "Executive Order"
and the Judiciary filled the vacuum.

I am saying only that the FMA announcement was poorly organized by the Republicans, severely so, not that it was a poor judgment.

So, it hardly surprises me that some of the congress critters are thinking about that too. Otherwise, I've said several times recently that events such as the FMA announcement have been amongst the most poorly organized political maneuvers that I've ever seen.
I'm still waiting to see the plan. President Bush had eight months to strategerize the FMA -- after Lawrence v. Texas made it obviously necessary -- before he finally announced his support for it last month. Then: nothing. There has been no coordination with Congressional leaders; no blitz from the bully pulpit; the case isn't being made. Where's the plan? Where's the execution?

The Republicans' low point was in the 75th Congress (1937-1938) in FDR's second term, when they had only 89 members in the House of Representatives (and only 16 Senators out of 96). That was the only time since 1900 that one of the two major parties had less than 100 seats in the House of Representatives.
Right after WWII, the Republicans controlled both houses during the 80th Congress (1947-1948), with a 245-188-1 margin in the House and a 51-45 margin in the Senate.

The FMA is the Federal Marriage Amendment proposed last week for the U.S. Constitution.

Well, to be precise, it was proposed some while before last week, but Bush endorsed it last week.

We all have to ask ourselves: Smaller Government, if not now, when??? Exactly. These damned professional politicians always have an excuse why we can't have our liberty and earnings back. The excuses usually come down to buying their next reelection.
Screw them. I'm waiting for the big crunch and hopefully a rebuilding if Americans aren't too stupid by now to rebuild.

You're probably right about the low point being slightly before WWII.
I remember reading about that period but remembered the low point being after the war. Sorry if my facts were wrong. I'll recheck.
Thank You.

Huh?! Every poll since February 10 has had Kerry ahead of or tied with Bush, except for the Rasmussen Poll which consequently is the only one regularly featured on FR threads...That's not exactly correct. Every one of the below polls - and none of them are Rasmussen - shows a statistical tie. And Brit Hume last night mentioned a new FNC/Opinion Dynamics poll showing a 45-45 tie. Kerry's not ahead.
