The federal income tax as currently comprised is the largest protection racket ever devised by man. well true of course, but it's symptom of too much government spending and redistribution. Just changing the method of collection while making the burden fairer (which in my estimation will never happen because Kongress has been shifting the burden off the majority of losers to the minority of productive individuals for decades) won't correct the core rot.

Go back and read the writings of the New Dealers who foisted the bulk of this current system on us back in the late 40's under Truman.
When you do, you will see that they were not in the least shy about admitting that it IS all about how you collect the revenue. How much you collect, and how much you spend is secondary. What is paramount is the control mechanism they instituted for the admitted purpose of social engineering.
The income tax system affects and distorts everything economic.

Should have written:
The income tax system affects and distorts everything economic...and it does so apart from how much they collect, and how they spend what they collect.
