It is amazing how one can know so much about the word of Christ and understand so little. I don't know what he feels he has to gain by preaching to fellow Christians about the rightousness of his interpretations over theirs. The world is a "target rich environment" for the Word of God. He should climb off of his pedestal, pack away his Rolex and get out among the sinners and pagans. Catholics don't need to be born a 3rd time.

The Bread, body and blood refer to the Holy Spirit. It is analogy. By eating the components of the food become part of the being. The fact that one does not obfuscate that fact in ritual, does not mean they do not partake of the Holy Spirit. At the Last Supper He requested His people to, "do this in remembrance of Me." As long as folks gather in His name, that is what is important.

Hmmm...I'm no expert on all the variants, but Mel Gibson is a
"traditional" Catholic -- part of a group that basically disagrees with
the Vactican II changes.

A fair and even-handed article in The Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine
covered this a few weeks ago.

The idea that "The Passion" would have a Roman Catholic "flavor" shouldn't be a
suprise to anyone who gets a standard dose of news from TV, radio, newspapers or periodicals.

The Last Supper was a Seder meal. Jews believe that the Seder meal "makes present" the exodus from Egypt. It is more than simple remembrance. Ask a Jew, they'll tell you. This is the sense in which Jesus was speaking. The breaking of bread "makes present" Jesus' sacrificial death on the Cross. This is what Catholics believe. And scripture shows that St. Paul believed it too.

Here's something to think about:

Hebrews 5:11:-6:3

"We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so."

The Hebrews by this time were not recent converts. The author of Hebrews is saying "C'mon guys! Time to learn more and dig deeper into the Word!" This article written by Andrew Webb probably should not have been posted without the clarification that its intended audience is not for 'sinners and pagans', but it is for those who are already born-again Evangelicals and who are seeking to gain more discernment about theological matters. Protestants and Catholics believe different things about Salvation. He's pointing out to his fellow Protestant Evangelicals those differences. If it were a movie such as the "Jesus Film" I am certain Catholic theologians would have issues with it that they would like to point out to their fellow Catholics.

The Second reason why all visual representations of Jesus are lies is that they can never hope to represent the glory of Christ in His true nature. The best an image of Jesus can do is to represent him as a man, and while Jesus was truly a man, He was not merely a man. Jesus was also God, and no artist or filmmaker who has ever lived could hope to create an image that captures the true Glory of Jesus as God.

Except for the harsh term "lie" I'd say this is an outstanding point.
