This guy is running against ex-Attorney General Dan Lungren for Congress in the California's Third Congressional distric.

So I guess this means you support cock-fighting and kids dying from swallowing anti-freeze?

If he was from my district, Rico would get my vote!
I read his "Rico Report" regularly, and find his views to be solid main stream American. Lungren is California's Bob Dole; he appeared to deliberately lose to Gray Davis.

"He is against reforms of puppy mills, doesn't want a bittering agent in antifreeze, and sides with cockfighters and dogfighters," If this is true, then Oller ought to be kicked out on his ass, then thrown in a cage with a hungry bear.

Rico is VERY good people.
You cannot tell me that you are going to believe ANYTHING that the Humane Society says.
Remember the proverbial grain of salt?
Go read the legislation. Each and every one expands the scope of agencies and passes the cost back to the local government.
There are already laws on the books in each of these instances. The dems just want to make the laws bigger.
Rico will always have my vote. Today, tomorrow, anytime, any office.

Hear Hear.
I could forgive voting against a few of the regulation-type bills, but between his record as a whole and his bear hunting (the kind of hunting that's for cowards who are insecure in their masculinity, IMHO), this guy is ... well, I have no use for that kind of callousness.
And btw, I gladly give $ to the humane society. They aren't the extremists PETA nuts are.
It takes a certain type of individual to take cruelty to animals lightly... Oh don't let me get started lol...
Anyway... at the least, he needs to be strongly chastised by those who do care.

This guy is running against ex-Attorney General Dan Lungren for Congress in the California's Third Congressional distric. I hate to get semantical, but it would be more appropriate to say that Lungren is running against Oller.
While there is no incumbent, Oller is the State Senator representing most of that Congressional District, he is the former Assemblyman from the area, he lives in the district and grew up in the area, building his business from his days of sweeping floors as a young man.
Lungren is most recently a Washington DC lobbyist. He is from Los Angeles (350 miles away). He simply heard about an open seat and dropped in and bought a house in the district last year. His only connection to the district is when he lived nearby (but not in) the district when he served as Attorney General before his miserable campaign for governor where he handed control of the state to Gray Davis.
So let's say that Lungren is running against Oller.

It takes a certain type of individual to take cruelty to animals lightly... You don't know what youa re talking about. This is a loaded hit piece that only gives you half the facts.
"The certain type" they describe here is ALL Republican legislators, because that's who else joined Rico on these votes. They left out many of the inane and ridiculous details of these bills that caused unanimous partisan opposition by the Republican caucuses Rico served in. Are you going to suggest that all Republicans are cruel to animals, because these bill votes could be used to make that argument.
Learn some details and facts before you tarnish a man. The Sacramento Bee is NOT a sort of objective information.

Cruelty to animals has been linked to
Antisocial Personality Disorders. Most of your favorite serial killers engaged in animal cruelty. It's not a good sign. It's a character thing.
From the article:
"Steve Davey, Oller's campaign manager, did not dispute the votes cited by the Humane Society"
You suggest that Mr. Oller's votes were required by party discipline, but (again, from the article) "[t]he cockfighting bill was approved by both houses with only three negative votes."
That vote, along with Mr. Oller's other votes, suggests that Mr. Oller is a little weak in the knees when it comes to opposing animal cruelty.

Thank you, Scenic.
BTW Mr Elk, before you "tarnish" me again, reread my post. My comments were not based merely on the report by the Bee. I was going by his record (which Scenic clarified for you as being contrary to your assertions) as well as his Bear hunting.
So, I stand by what I said... while I wish he or his spokesman could tell us something to suggest otherwise, the combination of factors known so far indicate to me so far that Oller is callous toward animals.
I don't expect everyone to share my opinion on this issue. Many good people don't. But your condescending flames are off base.

Thanks, but that haas NOTHING to do with Rico. The only suggestions of "cruelty to animals" come from political hit pieces. Rico, is a kind VERY sociable man, a loving husband and father and one of the best conservatives in the state of California. Why don't you take your animal worshipping PETA agenda over to DU where it belongs?
I never said anything about "party discipline" Rico is his own man and votes on bills based upon their MERIT. I made the point about the Republican Caucus to show that they were just bad bills full of idiotic, nanny-government provisions based on emotions not facts, that many reasonable legislators could oppose, and did.

one of the best conservativesI don't think anyone here has suggested that Mr. Oller is incapable of some conservative thoughts and positions, but there isn't anything peculiarly conservative about a reluctance to oppose animal cruelty.
Like I said, it's a character thing.

Like I said, it's a character thing. That's why you should support Oller. He has the character to oppose emotion based legislation based on nothing more than knee-jerk, liberal policies. Rico is not afraid of being called politically incorrect for doing the right thing. That takes character.
