Hey Impeach98:
One has to be very careful about this in an election year, that we do not end up with Kerry. I know we probably won't win California for W anyhow, but we should still try to reduce the damage we cause him.
For example, let's say the media (as fair as they are) take the whole event out-of-context (as you claim I am...which I may be) and report it over and over in the RED STATES that Bush is hated by his own Republican Convention in California. The RATS will make hay over that one.
Being against the President for an ill-conceived idea should wait for now...

What I can conclude from today's discussion is that Fair Opinion must have been a harsh harsh critic of Arnold Schwarznegger during the recall gubernatorial campaign.
Because during that campaign Arnold argued for a number of policy positions that ran COUNTER to Bush including arguing for a pro-choice position (contrary to the President) and also attacking the 'right wing' of the party.
Or is just that it's OK to be a moderate and attack a position held by a conservative Republican, but it's not OK to be a conservative and attack a liberal position that a Republican officeholder is advacing?
To: FairOpinion
"So, on WHAT issues are Republicans allowed to disagree with their president "
NOTHING, in an election year, when the President is from your own party, unless you prefer a Democrat's stand on those issues.
Interesting. So all of the senate candidates have to agree with President Bush on 100% of all issues, or else they're naysayers and not worthy of a vote, eh?
That would be hard to do since they all four main candidates have voting records (although Marin and Casey's records are strictly local) to scrutinize and would therefore have discrepancies exposed, be exposed as liars and hypocrites, and therefore lose.
Talk about your 100% purity test. LOL. Guess you can't for for any of them now. What an unappeasable.
To: FairOpinion
-- more people will read that the so called "conservative movement" has been compromised and is really nothing but an anti-Bush movement hiding under the conservative mantle. I consider myself a conservative.
I am not part of any organized "movement"
I oppose GWB's 'guest worker' theories, and I want him to know that.
I support GW on most other policies.
I oppose Gil Cedillo's efforts to give driver's licenses to illegals.
If Arnold supports Cedillo's bill, I will still oppose it.
If asked at a rally what I thought about GWB's guest worker program or AS support of driver's licenses, I would boo.
I will vote for Howard Kaloogian for senator.
I will vote for GW for President.
You are wrong.

We just made the same points just now. LOL. He can't vote for any of 'em with his Bush purity test.

I guess it is how you and I use our words.
You say 'being against the President' - but I would quibble with your words.
Kaloogian is not against the President. He is against a policy the President has proposed.
There are lots of conservatives who don't like some of the provisions of the Patriot Act.
But of those who feel that way, plenty of them still support Bush because of the points you make. Yes, some say they now don't support Bush, but that's not what Kaloogian or Tancredo is doing with the immigration issue.
You place the burden on Kaloogian and Tancredo to not advocate against an amnesty/guest-worker plan. I place the burden on Bush to be politically astute enough not to go against Republican beliefs - especially when the issue is one that a number of Indepents and even Democrats agree on.

This is from Kaloogian's opening message to visitors on the main page of his website:
"Now, more than ever, President Bush needs someone who is willing to fight with him to keep America headed in the right direction to keep our taxes low and our national security assured." Source: www.HowardForSenate.com
I think that makes it clear how Kaloogian feels about Bush and puts into context his opposition to the amnesty/guest worker plan.
To: CounterCounterCulture
Yes, we DID make the same point! And CalCowGirl put it into perfect perspective. Couldn't be made any clearer than the combination of those 3 posts. :)
To: CounterCounterCulture
It comes down to whether you want the Republicans or Democrats to win.
It's going to be close, anything done to undermine President Bush only helps the Democrats. If you prefer Kerry/Edwards to Bush, keep undermining him to your hearts content, but stop calling yourself a conservative, and be honest about it.
=====
A Tighter Race
A Kerry-Edwards ticket could beat Bush-Cheney, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. And while the Massachusetts senator remains the clear Democratic frontrunner, John Edwards increasingly appeals to voters

I know we probably won't win California for W anyhowI think some of you have short memories, after watching Californians cut Gray Davis to pieces with a political chain saw, I wouldn't concede or take for granted anything as times are a changin. Seems to me, with some of these policies that are coming out of this administration, they ought to be concerned with losing states other large states, not just California.

Strangely, I feel the same way you do over the illegals, but next year is the time, not now ...unless you like going down in flames, (aka a Kerry Presidency)...A Kerry Presidency kind of makes you feel warm and fuzzy doesn't it???

P.S. And I have been waiting for the NEXT YEAR for YEARS too...

"Now, more than ever, President Bush needs someone who is willing to fight with him to keep America headed in the right direction to keep our taxes low and our national security assured." Sounds good to me, if he could win...but remember the Recall lost in S.F. and he will have a hard time there. Of course I would vote for him in the general election, but he will probably lose. It is sad really...he would be a good guy for the Senate.

Rock on. I love it. If our elected officials won't do the job, then we will elect officials that will.
To: Joe Hadenuf
I think some of you have short memories, after watching Californians cut Gray Davis to pieces with a political chain saw... I have a long memory, and as for Davis, he impaled himself on the chainsaw...remember, he actually defeated the recall in S.F. with all his misdeeds...
For the team to win, we must play like a team. Going against the quarterback does not a winning team make.

"President Bush needs someone who is willing to fight with him "
===
Leading a rally and an audience in booing President Bush, and attacking his policies, doesn't exactly qualify as "fighting with him".
Too bad for Howard -- he showed bad judgement and demonstrated that he cannot be trusted -- except by the Dems who are using him, just the same way they used McClintock to sow division among Republicans/conservatives, to get their own candidates elected.
People who are so blind and naive not to see that, have been correctly referred to as "useful idiots" by the communists.

Agreed and they ought to be concerned with learning how to count also.....why risk the backlash from literally tens of millions of American voters in order to pander to maybe 3-5 million Mexican voters. These people are morons beyond belief or the fix is in.

And who exactly did the RATS get elected by having TOMBOTS around???...unfortunately for us, it was Arnold.
You lost me with that snipe Fair...

We still haven't gotten a response who you're voting for. Kaloogian "undermined" Bush according to you on this thread, Jones "undermined" Bush in 2000 bigtime, Marin and Casey "undermined" Bush on abortion.
Who's it gonna be? Put up or shaddup.
