We said the same thing. "Tries?" Not Hardly.
The headline should have read "Bush RALLIES troops.
Bush DID rally the troops and they LOVED him!!!!

This is utterly outrageous. The headline couldn't be more inappropriate, the mention of the meaningless National Guard story, and sneaking in the phrase "child of privilege".
I cannot believe my eyes.

As I've been saying, if the press gave Bush the same coverage as they give to the Dems he would be 20 points up in the polls. He is going to be fighting this uphill battle all the way to November. What makes it even harder is he has to do it alone because his Republican allies in the house and senate are afraid to open their mouths to defend him or to attack the Democrats.

An article ... said that troop morale overseas is low.At least that provides some context to their use of "tries to boost." When I have questioned outrageously editorial copy-editing in the Boston Globe, the ombudsman has sometimes explained it to me in terms of anticipating later developments in the story. I don't think it is a good excuse but it is a partial explanation; i.e. that the editors are piecing elements together across several days of reporting.

I spent 26 years in the military, was in 2 wars, and now I work with military people everyday in my job as a contractor. I like so many others left the military because I became demoralized and could no longer stomach Clinton's destruction of what Ronald Reagan worked so hard to build. And I can tell you from my own experience that morale is as high now as it was when Commander-in-Chief Reagan brought us back from the depths of despair and humiliation that Jimmy Carter had cast our post-Vietnam military into.
As a side note, I don't know were Kerry is dredging up these so-called vets that support him but I have yet to find one active duty guy or vet here on the base where I work that will admit they support Hanoi Kerry.

Foul language is a crutch for those who don't have cogent thoughts.
Troop morale is not low.
Find someone else to swear at.

"Bush "tries" to boost troop morale in LA? Gimme a break!" Among the DNC's faxed Talking Points for the last 2 weeks has been the urging of newscasters and writers to insert the word "try" into everything Bush and/or the White House does. Substituting "attempt" is acceptable. This is to remove any hint from any story that Dubya succeeds at anything. Everyone who gets the Talking Points has written from the same "gravitas" page.
