I live in "downstate" (anywhere but Chicago) Illinois.

Richard Daley the 2nd not only runs Chicago as his own hereditary fiefdom he runs the entire state thru his toadie governor Blogoveich.

Heres hoping the fedgov rips Daley a new one over this.

But it won't.

At best it will require that he repair and reopen the airport which the taxpayers will get the bill for doing.

It should come from Daleys own pocket.

Regards

"Here is the big scandal Daley will not survive." ... Oh, please. Daley is not going to suffer from this at all.

The excuse Daley gave for his actions was a terrorist in a small plane could get close to downtown using the ruse of landing at Meigs, then swerve at the last second and hit a downtown building.

I dream of the day when the FAA realizes the same scenario applies to Midway and O'Hare, and shuts them down.

I've been thinking of cafepress'ing America's Daleyland license plate frames. Think there'd be any interest?

What makes this scenario absurd is that only a small portion of the traffic in the flyway originates or terminates at Meigs. Most of the traffic in the flyway involves single-engine aircraft going between points north and points east. Because an engine failure over the middle of Lake Michigan would be very bad, pilots fly near the shore. Unless Daley wants to build a chain of islands so that planes can fly from Wisconsin to Indiana without flying past Chicago, closing Meigs will do nearly nothing to reduce the traffic near the city, but instead will make it harder to monitor such traffic.

America's Daleyland license plate frames

Excellent idea.

However I'll bet if you have one on your vehicle in Chicago you'll get a bunch of tickets and/or towed.

I agree, and that was my exact response when Daley came up with his excuse. But he still won't suffer any for it.
