Failing to show gains could put future funding under the program in jeopardy,

He committed on of the unforgivable sins, as viewed by a educrat: He jeopardized their funding!!

``I am not happy with him,'' she said. ``His wings are going to be clipped a little.''

Good for you, Mom.

But she also thinks his punishment is too severe, especially kicking him out of the National Honor Society -- a step she plans to fight.

Is it "honorable" behavior to act like a d*** and cop an attitude during a test? Membership in the NHS is a privilege, not a right. Actions have consequences - a lesson the little darling is either going to learn here or later out in the real world.

Sounds like the school was trying to stack the test and got caught.

It sounds like this kid was a top student. Doesnt' sound like he was one of the ones that needed improving.

Why weren't they testing the C & D kids to see how much they had improved?

What's he going to say when he's summoned for jury duty?

Are these tests related to the "No Child Left Behind Act"?

I think the student was wrong to behave the way he did, and he is wrong in his justifications.

Being an "nearly straight-A student" doesn't mean much if every school has different standards. I went to an inner-city high school where it was very, very easy to get straight As. Then I went to a charter school where it was much more difficult. How are they going to bring up the standards of all schools if there is no testing?

Personally, I don't have a problem with funding being tied to student performance. Let's see if the schools are doing their jobs.

From the article: While not all of the tests count for students, many have major consequences for schools and districts. Those that fail to show adequate progress can face such stiff penalties as staff changes and state takeover. I say that's good.

If this student didn't know why he was taking the test, why didn't he just ask?

This kid's great. Tests that don't matter shouldn't be taken seriously. The morons who run the public schools don't seem to understand that.

Reminds me of an old Peanuts cartoon. Linus is home sick one day. The next day, on the way to school, Lucy asks if he has his excuse note for being sick. He says he forgot it, Lucy says the school needs it so they can get their state aid money. Linus is taken aback and says, "I thought they were concerned that I was feeling better."

Everything "for the Children" is all about money!

You are right on the money. The only time they pay any attention to smart white boys is when they need them to jack up the scores on these school assessment tests. Otherwise, they are the whipping boys of the education system. I think this kid had every right to want to be in class instead of using his brains to make some incompetents in the district office look good. Often the administrators get bonuses for high scores. The kids get nothing, of course. I have e for the future that perhaps we are not raising a 100% group of sheep when I read a story like this. We will desperately need these Bravehearts.

A test for the school, but not for the student? Bah, the school can be graded on the bulk average of scores on the standardized tests, the schools shouldn't get to cherry-pick subjects for an assessment of the schools performance. I think the kid is being punished way too harshly, the parents in the district ought to be more concerened about the school administration.

Sorry but 1-0 is not -1 in fact it is an identity and the correct answer should be 1 Now if the question was what is 0-1 then you would have been correct depending on if the answer set included negative numbers ...But the real point of all of this is that sometimes at work ( or school or even at home) we are required to do things that we find unimportant or don't enjoy ( think cleaning toilets from my perspective)...Nonetheless we are required to do them and the work should be taken seriously and done well for its own sake That is called maturity. All actions have reactions
