There is nothing more haunting and mournful than the sound of bagpipes honoring those who have gone to glory.....Very true. It is also very beautiful.

I'm sorry, as usual didn't proof before posting. You had posted a picture previously of him in his kilt. He is a very handsome man.
I don't know why, but in my minds eye, I am seeing the castle at Edinburgh where they have the Music Festival and Tattoo. The Citadel Corps played there once. It was a great honor, I believe, the only America college corp invited to play there.

I couldn't agree with you more about the sound of the pipes. I think that anyone who has Scot or Irish blood always feels the call of the pipes skirling through the blood whether the pipes are playing or not.

Beautiful indeed, and dixie is correct about it singing in your blood..:))
My mother's mother's father was a Dickson, harking back to Robert the Bruce.
His wife, though, was the daughter of a man who came with his mother and brother to Rochester, NY from Germany when he wsa 15, after his father died.
He went to college in NY and studied under a Chemistry professor who had studied in Paris under Daguerre, and taught Grandpa Schorb photography.
He was written up in The State and The Sandlapper in the 70's as probably the first traveling photographer in America, ending up in York, SC, dixie.
He had a photography studio there, taking many photographs of the Civil War period, but also became head of the York Female Academy - a very learned man.
He painted life-sized backdrops for his portrait photos - and played the organ in his church for 50 years.
My mother remembered him well, living into his 90's, and died when she was 8 years old.

Good morning, night owls - was reading about your son, Maggie, and kilts, and bagpipes, etc. Love that haunting sound, too. At a wedding a few years ago, when the ceremony ended, all of a sudden - bagpipes and a man in a kilt appeared from nowhere! It was fantastic!
Here's another 'fantastic' couple of guys in kilts. :)
It's Tuesday - c'mon over. :)
