"Crying cockles, and mussels, alive, alive OH!" the song Molly Malone.

This is seafood. BUT if you are wise never refer to an Irishman as a "cocklepicker"; you'll be busy defending your self.

Regards,

I never heard "cocklepicker" before, never been around cockles except to eat 'em. :)

In my crowd,a "shellcooner" is a person that coons for shellfish with their hands and feet in shallow water because they can't dive or buy the gear for diving in deep waters.

The terms must be similarly demeaning.

Over the past 10 or 12 years I've noted a big increase in people with Oriental? names being picked up for taking game and fish with illegal methods in my parts,Texas-Okla............

There's been fighting and disputes in the NW over illegal mushroom picking in our National Forests. Orientals (Vietnamese I think) versus native born

I heard that illegal Mexicans are involved in the illicit mushroom harvesting in the NW,too.

Also,I think y'all have some wild plants that are harvested for the florists trade that illegals are taking without permits or where it's not legal but I'm not really familiar with your neck of the woods.

I harvest different kinds of critters in different States that I can get commercial, professional or special licenses to take and will "not" break a game law for "anything".

I've known more than a few folks that couldn't pass up the "easy" money in the illegal trade in animals and ended up with high dollar fines, confiscated gear, broken marriages and prison time. Not so "easy" money, after all.

It's ALWAYS been that way, hasn't it?
Afterall, the fabled British Empire was built on the Slave and Opium trades.

Not really. Britain already had a large empire before opium became a relevent commodity. And you also overstate the importance of slavery to its growth.

Thanks. To make a generalization: Immigrants (legal and illegal) don't respect our national parks the same way Americans do. Many of them trashed the 3rd world holes they came from and carry this attitude over here.

National Parks on our Mexican border get trashed and turned into garbage dumps by illegal alien border jumpers
