Sabertooth: The choir will love it though, I'm sure. Have fun.

Cheap shot as usual.

My first political book was The Conscience of a Conservative. I am not a purist,my way or the highway voter..I am very concerned for our nation if Kerry wins the Presidency. That is a fact. That we can agree on. But as you say in your openner to me, it's a matter of degrees.

I was on Newt's site the other day. Something he said somewhat amazed me. I'm paraphrasing from memory, but his point was for 20 years he was in the opposition. He job was to use any tool to be in the opposition. When 94 came, he was a leader. He had to deal with reality, fact and truth. What worked in opposition (including the soundbites) was not in fact, reality and truth. And leadership requires more of you.

I think many conservative found that the old songs sang so often simply were more rhetoric than truth.

I wish I had bookmarked where I found that, as I'm sure to a point I've butchered his thought.

Remember, Bush can only serve four more years. Even if he can be trusted to administer his policies properly, can the next president?

I think I have read that deficits being bad are a matter of degrees..how big v GDP is what I was referring to.

Young voters in the youth of their conservatism are true believers (I was)and never imagine "we" are flamethrowers at times. Our version of the dems saying Repbulicans will toss gramma down the stairs, children into hunger and care nothing for "the people"?

My Dad used to call the Presidency the great leveller. The extremes of right or left orthodoxy have to be tempered....I think Newt was discussing this as to leadership v minority.

Kerry still scares and sickens me(did I say that!?)

Let the problems of the day be sufficient unto themselves.

That's a very good point and there won't be a general election for many months.

Actually the UN looks like the fool in this. They are whining about the interest on the loan. Bush looks magnaminous to the middle of the road voters and the UN looks like spoiled brats.

So you see it's all about the high road. JMO, when you(TigersEye) knee jerkedly rant about the UN to the average voter you turn them off. But show them(UN) to be a bunch of whining beaureaucrats and you gain converts seeing the UN as the whining beaureaucrats they are.

My Dad used to call the Presidency the great leveller. The extremes of right or left orthodoxy have to be tempered.

Agreed. However, the candidates for the office do not campaign on being the great leveler. Even when President Bush campaigned on being a "compassionate conservative" he gave no clear meaning to the phrase. In fact he was very vague. But never once did he say I will temper the desires of the left and the desires of the right.

Kerry still scares and sickens me(did I say that!?)

If you didn't, I inferred what you strongly implied.

Absolutely! George is the man! He has show us the direction he wants to go. If we all get behind him now and let him know how much we like what he has done he will win in a landslide. Then, as a lame duck Pres. he can really put some steam behind his policies and make these first three years look like a pittance.
