And you think the sample is not representive...why? Representative of what? Yes it is consistently representative of the 20% unappeasable that have always been here. That 20% does not represent a pool of potential votes to be swayed. That 20% is and always has been anti-GOP/Bush.

So now, seniors have a prescription program
Yeah..one that will cost them just about as much as what they have now, and in some cases more. What this is about is a $500,000,000,000 gift to the drug companies that have been gouging the elderly and ill in order to subsidize cheap drugs outside our borders. For three months prior to this boondoggle, the drug companies had been wining and dining our politicians, giving large contributions in order to get them to ban the customers going off border to purchase their drugs at reasonable prices. What they got was the above mentioned gift, paid for by you and me. Reward for gouging America. Capische?

Speaking of 20%.... It was Rove that alluded to some 4 million of the Religious Right that didn't show in 2000. That's 4 million out of some 19 million he expected to vote... 4/19=21%.
The 20% or so on FR aren't all conservatives by any stretch and wouldn't vote for President Bush regardless. The same was showing in 2000 when Keyes, Buchanan, etc would win many polls of FR participants but didn't get a good sniff on election day... If I remember correctly according to exit polling President Bush only got some 81% of conservatives with most of the remainder voting for Gore...

...in spite of the unappeasables. This provides a good example. The poster you were speaking with is not, in his opinion, or mine, if that matters, "unappeasable." Because you addressed it to him it may appear as a personal attack. If you are attacking him, well, you got your point across in a roundabout way. If, however, you were not intending to accuse EV of unappeasability, perhaps you could be a bit more specific, pinging the posters who have actually demonstrated this to you? You might also quote a specific post where they expressed this unappeasability.
In this way you would not be offending someone you did not intend to offend, either the person you replied to with the comment or lurking FReepers, yet you would still be getting your point across.

Representative of what? Representative of FR.
It is consistently representative of the 20% unappeasable that have always been here.
Again, source please.
That 20% does not represent a pool of potential votes to be swayed. That 20% is and always has been anti-GOP/Bush.
Well of course FR is not representative of the larger population. That is a given.
I still stand by the "don't let the door hit you on the way out" strategy as effective voter outreach.

Since 2000 there has always been an 80/20 split on FR between GOP conservatives and 3rd party libertarians/populists/paleo-conservatives.Is that a personal guesstimate, or has someone done the research?

Fine. Go right on slamming conservatives, if you somehow think that is going to help the man you profess undying loyalty to.
But forgive me if I consider that crazy.

I haven't spoken in generalities. I am speaking to exactly what I've seen, heard, and read right here and on State Pages. Some of the rhetoric is appalling. That is what I was addressing...and trying to add some understanding of the bogus bad rap President Bush has gotten for almost everything he has done on domestic issues. Personally, with most of the world and the leftist libs, Marxists, fascists, Communists, and Socialists throwing pond scum at him 24/7, I am amazed that he has been able to accomplish even a third of what he has managed to do, with little or no help at all from those we trusted for help.
Republican used to mean OPPOSITE of democrat. Now, we have Scottish law, International law, green law, and heaven only knows who else has snuck in and destroyed us from within. We keep saying we want our country back. Maybe we should take our party back first and quit blaming the one man who had the guts to deal with it all.
Who REALLY believes that Bush didn't feel in his heart, (and he SHOULD have been right,) that the Campaign Reform Act would have been overturned by the Supreme Court? It IS unconstitutional. Who really believes that he thought HIS OWN PARTY would send him such a bill after he warned them? And do you REALLY think he would be so easy to deal with after that? He has told Congress not to send him the assault weapons ban. If they do, are you going to blame him for that too? We are supposed to be the majority. McCain was dirty. He hasn't stopped being dirty. Dirty money got him in trouble. He was just so determined to punish the whole electorate for it. So why isn't anyone screaming blue Moses about McCain? You know...the great *conservative* McCain?

Just remember, in the FR vote:
If it's Kerry vs Bush how will you vote?
Kerry 28 votes - 1%

Well, you think you are helping Bush and I think you are helping Kerry by angering right minded people. I guess we just are not going to agree.
P.S. Again in full disclosure: I am voting for Bush no matter how much you and your ilk anger me.

Is that a personal guesstimate, or has someone done the research? When you add the libertarian/populist/paleo-con/JBS contengient together yes it is about 20%.
