It's only a matter of time before someone decides it's time to "shock" the network aaudience with a display of pubics.

I say bring back shame and prudery, and I'm absolutely serious. The alternative is the present sexual assault of soft (and worse) porn on TV today. It's boring, it sets a dangerous example, and it degrades our culture.

When CBS and the NFL hired juveniles and degenerates to run their halftime show they knew exactly what they were doing. What they got was no shock. I hope the FCC hammers CBS as hard as possible.

If sex were understood to be very common and not that huge of a deal, then there would be nothing to rebel against. Sex is very common and yet it's still a big deal. There is plenty remaining to rebel against, and I do believe that unless it stops here, there will be a new low.
America used to believe in the dream of romantic love, and those of us over 18 understood its fulfillment to be in marriage...America used to know how to flirt...America used to be a lot more beautiful than bumping and grinding, crotch-grabbing, and semi-stripping on the national airwaves...This joyless and angry sexual visual aggressiveness is not good for young people.
Just my opinion, of course.

And that is the teaching that sex before marriage -- and sex outside marriage -- is immoral and a sin against God. Actually, this isn't just Christianity. Almost ANY traditional society teaches something similar. Including the pagan Romans and Greeks, German tribesmen, Jews, Muslims, Polynesians, (pace Margaret Mead) and anyone but the corrupt and decadent. Some of the more barbaric peoples made an exception for slaves and captives, but they protected their own women.
Sure, there has always been plenty of illicit sex, but people admitted it was wrong and didn't flaunt it on TV.

"The Super Bowl halftime show made you proud to be an American, didn't it?"

No. It did not. It only further clarified to me the fact that we are very much two different countries at the present time with conflicting ideals.
By the way - among those around the world who watched this exhibition of filth were without a doubt those in or with ties to the Islamic world. We couldn't have put together a better recruiting video for Al Qaida if we had tried.

The market will punish all parties (CBS, Janet, Justin) much harsher than the FCC ever could.

Thanks for your thoughtful answer. I would like to know, do those countries sexualize children the same way American pop culture does? When I've travelled outside the US, I haven't found that...

I sent my emails via
American Family Association as the article suggested.
Very quick, very easy. Hits all the targets in one shot.
That's a great activism site, truthandlife. We should do more to promote online activism through it. I wish we had such a feature right here at FR but I guess it would be a lot of trouble to maintain.
So, I have to commend AFA for their service and recommend that everyone try it.

I'd just like to see folks like the MTV producers and performers feel shame and develop a sense of prudery over what they've done with the half-time SuperBowl show.
I know, Hades will freeze, first.
But children raised without romance...(*shudder!*) raised on semi-hard pornography...I guess it scares me. Love as assault isn't very appealing...

I agree with your opinion on this matter. I have lots of theories, the hippies rebelling against society. Now the former hippies are in control, and they harken back to "free love" and liberalism.
I personally believe that the prudism, the ideals of the 50's tv culture, that's good stuff. Sure, it didn't exist in real life, but it was a place to aim. Now we aim for the gutter.
Why not aspire to a higher moral standard? I'm not a prude. I think that things have their place. If you are an adult and you are predisposed to enjoy smut, do it privately with other adults. Don't expose my kids to it.

The market will punish all parties (CBS, Janet, Justin) much harsher than the FCC ever could. How so? There's obviously a HUGE market for this stuff--and worse--on TV and in our faces (and the faces of our children) wherever we turn. And if we don't like it, what are we supposed to do? Get rid of the TV? Stop patronizing McDonald's? A few people will. But most will just shrug it off . . . and let the media have their way with the minds and hearts of their children.

I think nuance, subtlety, and flirtation thrive in a more repressive (that's not a dirty word, to me!) atmosphere.
