FOX does have a tendency to be over the top in terms of production, sensationalizing and fanfare. Apparently, no one is able to produce a program without fancy graphics and music. The NFL broadcasts are like that too and it is extremely tedious, but I digress.

I want to knock O' Reilly down a few more notches, mainly because of his contrary views to mine, aside from his arrogance. But he has done some revealing shows. But he did become too tedious to watch.(There's that word " tedious" again! Damn!) I have better things to do than to be angry ALL of the time. ;-}

I don't know what Neilsen reports to its clients, but we are a Neilson family and we were told that after any station is on after two minutes, it is recorded. That allows for channel changing.

Not only does Fox News airs too much tabloid news, they get poor grades with breaking news to boot.

I guess I bridle with even a whiff of a suggestion about what I should or should not watch.

"We're aren't a cult here in case you haven't noticed" sure caught my attention.

My comment was strictly practical. Unless you're a Neilsen family or are otherwise surveyed, what you watch has no effect on the ratings and advertising revenues. But, every time someone visits CNN's Web site, it increments their hit counter. CNN sells banner ads on their site. Advertisers look at the hit counter as one measure of whether their money is well spent on CNN. So, I flatly refuse to visit their site (not even to FReep a meaningless poll). I get at least 90% of my online news from FR. :-)

It's about getting the news promptly. It's up to the viewers to decide what to believe and what not.

FOX gets a D- from me and my family.

Esactly. I turned off Fox, which I rarely do, because I couldn't stand to here the Democratic candidates lie their faces off and bash Bush anymore.

I was wondering about the effect all those Demos were having on Fox viewership.

I would think that, in part, some of the swing would be because far more Dims actually care about the Dem primaries and they are more likely to swarm to a left-wing-viewer friendly news source.

However, you are correct that FOX seems to be lowering the bar in a lot of areas.

This morning I finally got fed up with Fox and turned it off when I saw the videotape of the carwash kidnapping for the fiftieth time. Then force of habit got the better of me, and I turned it on again -- there was Scott Petersen. ARRRGH! It's just another reality drama now, manufacturing ersatz emotions for little people who suck their life through a tube.

Even 30 minutes after the capture of Saddam broke on CNN, Faux still had Michael Jackson's ugly mug on screen, with 3 know-nothings speculating on how "broke" he was.

Fox isn't a news channel, it's a gab fest.

You're right. That's a no-brainer. Democrats watch CNN, and it was their primary after all.

Neilsen doesn't measure "quarter-hours."

I don't know how Nielsen reports their results, but they do have the capacity to measure quarter-hours. I filled out their weekly survey once late last year, and the time designations in the response booklet were broken out in quarter-hour increments.

Unfortunately, Greta's show comes on at 7 pm here, just when I'm ready to park on the sofa and watch some TV.
