How's this for a co-inkydink: Glenco Re may have ties to Marc Rich. If so, can the Toons be far behind? This bears some lookin' into...

Don't know about The Times. Last I knew you had to register and I refuse to.

I just checked they have tons of material on the Hutton Report, but have not had the chance to read through it.

It's the NYT that you have to register for. The London times is free unless you are using archives.

More on Marc Rich and Glencore (which I believe is the correct spelling) at this link.

Wonder if anyone will check this out.

I am not sure which country got the most (as I haven't had time to do the math), but RUSSIA and FRANCE, both OPPOSED to the war got the most.

And FWIW, I think Glencore's involvement with the Oil For Food program could stand some scrutiny, too.

Anyone who can speak legalese and has some spare time might want to check out this

State Dept doc

The doc is some kind of legal decision (I think) about lifting a restraining order against the Oil For Food program. Glencore is mentioned. Something about the doc just makes me wonder, or maybe it's just my brain getting tangled in the legalese. But was someone in the toon admin trying to do a favor for the UN again?

Here is an interesting thread from May of 2003

GEORGE GALLOWAY said he was pelted with eggs today when he spoke at a May Day rally.

The Glasgow Kelvin MP was speaking at a workers' festival in Wallasey, Merseyside, to a crowd of around 200 supporters.

When he began his speech, a shaven-headed man threw three objects including eggs and shouted: "You are up Saddam's a***."

Well I guess that guy got it right.

This from the Independent (UK)

They came upon a box marked "Britain", containing four blue folders. In the first was a letter written by the Labour MP George Galloway, nominating the Jordanian businessman Fawaz Zureikat as his representative in Baghdad, and a letter from Sir Edward Heath. Both documents are genuine.

Eventually, Mr Blair and his translator gathered up three boxes marked "Britain" and one marked "France", containing about 4,000 documents in all, and carried them out of the building – an act which, examined in the wrong light, could be described as looting. The Daily Telegraph defends their unorthodox action by saying that, "by then, the documents did not really belong to anyone".

I'd love to know what's happened to those docs. Seems to me there was a box labeled U.S., too.

May I suggest you make some kind of outline of how the money was filtrated to D candidates and send it to the media.

And now my son is in Iraq, dispensing liberty to the sometimes confused iraqis. I'm very proud of him.

Please let him know that we are, too!

And thank you for your service, cookcounty.

If our education/information institutions weren't in domestic enemy hands, I'd promote your testimony as a fine argument for bringing back the draft.
