You should set your sights on Alec Baldwin. Ever since that Henry Hyde comment I dream of that chance encounter. Although I haven't been keeping up with my work out rountine in years past, and he has all that experience beating up on Kim, I would still relish the oppertunity. Franken would be nothing but an appetiser.

Franken said he's not backing Dean but merely wanted to protect the right of people to speak freely.

Does anybody else see a problem with the logic of this statement coming immediately after he assaulted someone for speaking freely?

"I just can't get over the 'body-slam' verbiage"

Good point OX. How do you body-slam someone when you take them down at the knees as Franken admits? Sounds to me like he ran over to him and fell in a drunken stupor and happened to hit the guy in the legs. I mean he did end up on the ground, so its likely that he got HIS a$$ kicked.

This won't get much air or ink since the guy was a Larouche supporter. If he was a Bush guy you'd never hear the end of it.

Those were my thoughts exactly. Apparently, "Knock 'em down" Franken believes it's okay to use physical assault on people who are exercising THEIR right of free speech. Leftists are just stupid about everything.

'"I would have done it if he was a Dean supporter at a Kerry rally," he said.

"I'm neutral in this race but I'm for freedom of speech, which means people should be able to assemble and speak without being shouted down." '

Franken... lets not mince words here; you are an idiot...

its not about free speech with you, its about somebody heckling your guy, and you not controlling your emotions.

To then try to make it out that you are "the" defender of free speech is abhorrent... you friggen idiot...

To add more to the confusion.

Franken emerged from the crowd and charged one male protester, grabbing him with a bear hug from behind and slamming him onto the floor.

Sounds more like a suplex to me.

Bear Hug?

I'm not as certain about Baldwin as I am about Franken. Franken would be easy. Wrestling. A lot of good that will do as his teeth go flying. :o)

Give him 90 days in county, civil suit to follow.

By any chance was he wearing a brown shirt?

The tussle left Franken's trademark thick-rim glasses broken, but he said he was not injured.

Wish I could see that!

BTW, he would've had more than that broken if he so much as touched me.

I'm in the process of transcribing a court-martial in which an assault and battery was charged. Here are the instructions that the judge gave to the accused during his providence inquiry regarding that offense ...

"Let me go ahead and define some terms for you that apply to this offense. The first is the word "assault." Assault is an intent or offer, with unlawful force or violence, to do bodily harm to another. An assault in which bodily harm is inflicted is what we call a "battery." That's what you've pled guilty to. A battery is an unlawful and intentional application of force or violence to another. The act must be done without legal justification or excuse and without the lawful consent of the victim. Now, "bodily harm" means any physical injury to or offensive touching of another person however slight."

Now, I understand that courts-martial are different from civil courts, but I believe I can reasonably confidently assume that the elements of an offense are similar, if not identical.
