The reason for the "lag" from time of infection to time of aquired immune dz probably has to do with the fact that some cytokines have slightly overlapping functions, and the body, being cleverly made by God, is able to keep up a defense until such a time that the CD4 are sufficiently depleted that it matter not what other cyctokines other immune cells are producing, and yes, HIV is CD4 specific.

I'd say if there were a cytokine that didn't have overlapping function it would be the exception. This is hand vaving, which is fair enough, but is again away from the direct cytopathicity of the virus on CD4 cells.

Well, with respect, I quite disagree on the topic of Duesberg. I am aware of his antecedents - everyone in the field is - but in my personal opinion his skepticism on the matter has, in fact, gone from reason to unreason. Your mileage may vary.

But the objections of his lay adherents are absolutely impossible to address without attempting to recreate on a political forum the entire corpus of literature on the topic. It is there that I personally gave up. It was they, incidentally, and not he, whom I characterized as "flat-earthers" and I stand by that one.

Unfortunately objections of lay adherents for either argument fall in this category.

I always felt Deusberg's extremism was to a large part rhetorical to cunterbalance Gallo's extremism on the other side. Gallo used to say just one exposure to HIV would be as deadly as being hit bu a truck. No co-factors, one hit, you are dead.

CD4 cells are not necessary for hematopoiesis.

Not for ALL aspects, hematopoeises incluses the differentiation of all blood cells from a single precursor into lymphocytes, leukocytes, erythrocytes, and megakaryocytes, so no, CD4 T's are not regulating EVERY aspect of blood cell production, they are however, intimately tied to the production of new B and T cells, and the differentiation and activiation of said cells.

I'm sorry. Could you link to the Harrison piece or say which post it is in. I have missed it

Harrison's is online, but I think it costs. I'm refering to a medical text/referncebook on internal medicine. The thing is like 20lbs. Go to your library and ask for it, it won't be confused with any other book. Check the index for "human immunodeficiency virus" and read the details. Some of it can be quite tedious, but you should get all your questions answered there.

Remind me never to ask you a question on physics moron. The data is was published in a peer reviewed journal in late 2003 following the Durban Decalration, of which you know nothing about,...as you obviously know nothing about AIDS. I certainly hope you become HIV positive and forced to take AZT, something els you know nothing about.

Don't make comments like this one. You're doing nothing except showing how incredibly stupid you are. And as far as degrees, I have 2 more than you, a-hole!
