It was in October of 2002. Dear freeper, and Doser, WVNan invited my son Eric and me to come to Charleston to hear the President speak, so we, of course, accepted.

We waited for HOURS beforehand outside in the brisk West Virginia fall air, and went inside, took seats, and then decided to go up to the rope line and stand, and wait.

WELL, he came in from the opposite side of the hall, and the room exploded! He gave a GREAT campaign speech (of course!), and then came down RIGHT in front of us, and started 'working' the line.

I was right on the rope with my camera.......I'll show you pics if you'd like........and when he got to me, I dropped the camera (on a strap), and managed to say what I'd planned to say, "I pray for you and Laura every day."

He looked right in my eyes, and said, "Thank you. That's the kindest thing you can do for me."

And THEN, he kissed me on the cheek. WVNan put her hand on his, and afterwards, he reached back and shook Eric's hand.......I, of course, do not remember that, as I was experiencing the vapors.......

I practically collapsed on the floor, Eric said, "I just shook hands with my Commander in Chief," and forgave his mother for acting like a schoolgirl!

WVNan and I went back to her house, and got on the Dose, and BOY was THAT fun!

I got into bed very late, started to laugh to myself, and then cried, and thanked the Lord for this WONDERFUL President!

My family friend John is back stateside, and as a bonus from his company doing the work he did, the company paid for him to have 2 weeks in (some Colorado resort) for his good work. (This info came in to me in the last couple of days.)

Do I remember correctly that you're fairly new to the Dose? If so, let me tell you that Ohio has quite possibly the most extensive collection of GWB and Laura pictures in the entire universe, from when he was a teeny tiny baby (knowing her, she has some of him in the delivery room) to this very moment.

If you ask her rrreeeeeeaaaaaallllllyyyy nicely, she just might post some of her favorites for you to drool over--I mean to learn more about this great president (I did that when I was new, and it was a great night for me :-) ).

I just had a regular old 35 mm camera, with a zoom.....these first two are from quite a distance....

All I gotta say, is that these pictures don't do him justice.......he's gorgeous!

And one word of explanation......it was Halloween, and the lady next to me was wearing a PUMPKIN costume......thus the greenery in front of the President.

It was very shortly after I snapped this not too flattering shot that I dropped the camera, and got ready......
