Just in a small parallel, my grandfather (who came to America from Sweden for religious freedom), used to get up every morning in the wee hours, and get on his knees and pray for his children, his grandchildren, and all those descendents yet unborn.

As of now, ALL his grandchildren are born again Christians, and MANY are serving the Lord in full time ministry (and some of the greats).

Neat, huh? That's Eric's heritage........his middle name is the last name of that grandfather!

There really, really is power in those prayers for our descendants. On my mother's side I am descended from French Hugenots who fled religious persecution in France by coming to America, and I believe my British ancestors came for the same reason. There were many ministers among my maternal ancestors. On my father's side, there were and are many, many German Lutheran and then American Lutheran pastors and it has become a family calling to plant churches all over America. I know my progenitors prayed consistently for the yet-unborn me and my family, and especially, my father and his mother prayed for me. It is an awesome gift, a treasure to pass on. I especially like the prayers that ALL of one's descendants will become born again. That's a prayer God delights to answer!

Well of course she likes being an American. She's most accurately described as a "hyper-patriot".

She just likes to know where her ancestors come from.

If your Mother's family are descended from Heugenots, and my Maternal family is descended from Heugenots, then most likely, you and I are related. I am a direct descendant of Henri d'Estang who fled for the freedom to be a Protestant.

I believe there's something Scriptural about praying for future generations - 3 generations forward, I believe. I come from a long line of feisty strong Christians on both sides of my family: my Mom's family from France, my Dad's from Scotland and England, and while I can't say, unfortunately, that all of my nieces and nephews are born-again Christians, a good percentage of them are and I'm praying for the rest of them!
