Not in these United States of America!
Semper Fi
The name of the poster that used the variant was westcoastfreedomlover. It may be too great a stretch of the imagination, but this being the Internet, perhaps that person was actually from ... never mind ... You agree the word was not misspelled. To discuss the matter any further is moot. Suffice to say, when on an American based website, spell as the Americans do. < /snicker >.
What was her first JFK phrase exactly?
Please see President John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address for a full text of his speech.
The parts in question are as follows:
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
...
Last night, in the democratic response speech, pelosi stated the following:
As a nation, we must show our greatness, not just our strength. America must be a light to the world, not just a missile. Forty-three years ago today, as a college student standing in the freezing cold outside this Capitol building, I heard President Kennedy issue this challenge in his inaugural address: "My fellow citizens of the world," he said, "ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
The full text of the democratic response speech can be found here.
Are you sure that wasn't lesbitarian.
WHAT EXACTLY did Nancy Pelosi say? You have successfully shown that Kennedy's quote was more than the first famous sentence of the well-known quote. But, what did Pelosi say? Do you know?
I believe she did speak, whatever her words, to make JFK's words apply to America having to ask permission from the rest of the world (UN) to go to war or similarly. She seemed to try to mold JFK's words into a plea to get America on its knees to the rest of the world.
As I said, I was nearly sleeping at the time, but it sure seemed sneaky to me, and the Rats ARE sneaky!
No. Just put the Pelosi QUOTE next to the Kennedy QUOTE. It is apparent there was a second part of the JFK quote that is more like what Pelosi said last night. Well, WHAT did she say? Come on, nc.
The Botox Queen and Dashole really had lame responses to the SOTU. This misquote mad me screem at the TV. I called her "You lying Botox Bi+c#."
Then the Puffster with the following comment:
We believe that we have to honor the promises we've made to the millions of families who worked hard, played by the rules and have earned a retirement of dignity.
My question to the Puffster is: #1. If you want to honor the promises of millions of familes who worked hard, then why don't you propose legislation to end welfare?
#2. If you want to allow people who play by the rules and have earned a retirement of dignity, why don't you propose legislation to end the current retirement system for Congress and pay YOUR own way?
"My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
Last night, pelosi quoted Kennedy and said -
"My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
I don't see this as a misquote. nancy just quoted what seems to be a lesser known portion of Kennedy's speech. The part she quoted plays more towards her desire to form a "true coalition" of nations.
#2. If you want to allow people who play by the rules and have earned a retirement of dignity, why don't you propose legislation to end the current retirement system for Congress and pay YOUR own way?
Capital thinking.
Then as you note, Karla Marx (Nancy) got a JFK quote right last night.
BUT, she gave the JFK quote RIGHT AFTER saying this, "As a nation, we must show our greatness, not just our strength. America must be a light to the world, not just a missile.
She got the JFK quote correct, but her use of it in this "missle" context is rather clear. She was pointing to our strength and war-like demeanor rather than our other great and positive characteristics. It was sneaky, negative, critical and underhanded of her, IMHO, but at least she got the quote right. Congrats, Nancy!
Thanks for clearing things up. I find fault with her MISUSE of the quote, not the use of the quote itself.
Agreed. Simply put, nan was trying to build a case for claiming the United States may be strong but not great nor a light to the world.
I agree with you on the quote, but she left out this part just before it for OBVIOUS reasons: Purley Political.
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.
Perfect!
BTW, do her eyes ever close? ;)
